...Works perfectly with LINUX!!! (which is why I bought it). DOES work natively with XP. Kind of big by today's standards, but robust and well-constructed.Inexpensive legacy device that supports injection for all you Aircrackers. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE "V2" VERSION. Five stars for the product, dinged on modern windows compatability (there may be a solution - IDK).

Terrible, terrible range,

I work in a library full of computers, where we have both a wired network and a wireless network running from different ISPs. We wanted to add wireless capability to more of our computers in case of trouble with the ISP that powers the wired network. We've had good luck with the Netgear WG111v3, and even better luck with the Dell Wireless 1450 USB Adapter (802.11 a/b/g). The Netgear V3 version at least picks up the wireless signal in our building, and one other network in the neighborhood. The Dell picks up six or seven networks! (Too bad they've discontinued that one.)This V2 version only picks up our signal on a computer that is literally one foot from our wifi broadcast antenna. At the next computer, five feet away, it cannot connect at all. In fact, we've tried the V2 on 4 different computers which connect fine using the other adapters, and it only works on that one computer that is right next to the antenna.

The hardware we received is a netgear hardware but the installation CD was not an official installation CD. It was a generic CDR CD that looked to be homeade. The installation CD did not work for us and the seller would not accept a return of the product.

Just installed a new AT&T 2701HG-B modem router, in my sons room upstairs. Bought the D-Link DWA-125, for my PC downstairs, and the signal was weak. Returned it and got the DWA-160, and also got a weak signal. Read many reviews online and decided to try the Netgear WG111v2. I did not use the drivers on the CD in the package. I downloaded the WG111v2 Version 4.0.0 from the netgear website.Installed it, and chose Microsoft WLAN manager (Windows 7) to manager the connection, from the menu when starting it up. Complete shock, as it received a 5 bar (excellent) signal. I just received it today, so hopefully it continues this way. |
