4.0 out of 5 stars Complete, definitive and easy to understand LW sourcebook
The book provides a complete, definitive and easy to understand source book on LiveWire. After studying, and following it, you should have no problem in writing and deploying LiveWire applications.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too vague. More of an overview and definitely NOT hands-on!
I am a web developer that wanted to use LiveWire to develop a web site. Unfortunately, this book simply didn't have what I needed to know to get the job done.

As incredible as it may seem, only three chapters out of this entire book pertain to LiveWire. These chapters are: Chapter 3, The LiveWire Tool Set (an overview of LiveWire tools), Chapter 5 Client/Server...

This review is from: The Netscape LiveWire Sourcebook: Create and Manage a Java-Based Web Site (Paperback)
I am a web developer that wanted to use LiveWire to develop a web site. Unfortunately, this book simply didn't have what I needed to know to get the job done.

As incredible as it may seem, only three chapters out of this entire book pertain to LiveWire. These chapters are: Chapter 3, The LiveWire Tool Set (an overview of LiveWire tools), Chapter 5 Client/Server JavaScript (an overview of all LiveWire except for the database object), and Chapter 6 Using Databases in Your LiveWire Application (an overview of the database object). The other 9 chapters in the book are filler FLUFF that has little to do with LiveWire.

Luckily before I pulled all my hair out, I found a terrific book that covers LiveWire and many other Netscape technologies, William Stanek's Netscape ONE Developer's Guide. This book has 150 pages dedicated to developing applications with LiveWire that explores everything you need to know in a comprehensive and intelligent manner. The book includes terrific project walkthroughts and develops REAL applications include a file viewer and a database management application. The book also has comprehensive coverage of JavaScript, Netscape Plug-ins and much more. Definitely get Netscape ONE Developer's Guide instead...

1.0 out of 5 stars don't waste your money, July 29, 1997

Really deserves a -10. Bought it because there were no other books out at the time, and even then it was a waste. The Official Netscape LiveWire book was better, but I'm still looking for a really strong book in this area
