4.0 out of 5 stars For newbies to Networking, April 25, 2006
This review is from: Network+ 2005 In Depth (Paperback)
If you are brand new to the world of network administration this is the book for you. It covers everything IN DEPTH, and will give you enough knowledge to function as a Junior Network Admin. It will give you the answers to questions most other books will not. This book is more of a text book for Network Administration as well as a cert guide. For those who are looking for a more "refresher book" or have been in the field for awhile, I recommend something that gets more down to the necessities of the test. I found this book a long read and since I have been in the Networking field for well over 4 years I switched to the Sybex 4th. edition. I still use this book as a reference book for things I don't understand and for real life issues.

I got Network+ certified using this book (along with the companion Q&A). It covered almost everything on the exam. You get your moneys worth if you want to get certified.

2.0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Trainer, October 2, 2005
This review is from: Network+ 2005 In Depth (Paperback)
If your desire is to fully understand the principles of the CompTIA Network+ exam, you should consider a different book. If your desire is to add a book with a large page count of useless information, then you have selected the correct book.

I recently used this book as part of a Network+ class, and we found a tremendous number of errors, and quite a few topics that were either not covered, or covered superficially. The description of the OSI model was enough to know the names of each layer, but not the functions of each layer.

The section on IP addressing lacked some very basic elements. There was no mention of the private IP addressing range.

In regards to the CompTIA Network+ exam, there are very few books available. There should be one less.
