Good for small company LANs and desktop support pros,
By Mike Tarrani "www.tarrani.com" (Deltona, FL USA) - See all my reviews (COMMUNITY FORUM 04) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Network Administrator's Security Resource Guide (Spiral-bound)
This book is an uneven collection of articles, tips and techniques that is more applicable to a PC-centric computing and desktop office automation. It's a great resource for small companies or workgroup administrators, but is a bit too light for enterprise-wide security. If you are the LAN administrator for a small company that uses consumer operating systems and applications, such as Microsoft's Windows family, you will find this book to be an invaluable source of information. If you are responsible for security in a larger multi-platform enterprise, especially one that spans multiple locations and is dependent upon business-critical applications and e-commerce or ERP suites, you will probably find this book too lite and not slanted towards the issues that you need to address. If you call into the latter group I strongly recommend CERT Guide to System and Network Security Practices by Julia Allen.
