A pretty standard Network+ book. It will get your certified. The only down side with this book is that there are too many authors involved and the writing style changes from chapter to chapter.
I am glad to see they have Ron Gilster and Trevor Kay helping out. If you have some networking knowledge this book is perfect for you.

I bought this book, along with the Network+ Passport by Mike Meyers and passed the test with no problem. I'm a fan of Gilster's books, and this one didn't disappoint. While the Network+ Passport does a great job of skimming over the basics, this book expanded on topics and covered everything necessary. Since I already had networking experience, I could have passed the test with this book alone. I also thought the test software included was pretty solid.

What happens when an exam gets updated and you need the latest information? What happens when 5 respected industry experts collaborate on a specific topic? The results were a pleasant surprise and this book may rival any and all other out there today.

Broken down into 4 part this 700 plus page book does in fact cover each and every exam objective for the newest Network+ exam, 002. In part 1, Media and Topologies you learn about the 802 series, 10 vs. 100 series and hardware.

Part 2, Protocols and Standards goes over IP addressing, OSI, TCP/IP, network services, internet, intranet, extranet and VPN, Wan standards like ATM, FDDI, ISDN And SONET.

Part 3 moves through network implementation with discussion about different OSes, and Part 4 covers the operations of the network with utilities like PING, TRACERT and Winipcfg.

There is assessment question, scenarios and labs in each chapter, the scenarios seem too be taken from real life situations, as well as tips and cross references. The cd included comes with a handy subnet calculator, as well as 250 practice questions using the BOSON test engine. Overall a great value for the money.

Though I have found much useful info in this book, and like the practice exams and additional tools on the CD, the many typos and errors (including incomplete sentences) make it difficult to read. I think whoever did the proofreading (if anyone?) must've been asleep.

I was familiar with many of the elements and concepts beforehand, but I've had a hard time grasping newer or unfamiliar subjects due to the many mistakes.

I will definitely be using other materials to study with.

And more! This book is great! This was one of the first books out for the new (2002) Network+ exam. Ron Gilster and the other writers include all the details on the why, how, and wherefore of networking in general and the Network+ exam specifically. Along with Gilster's great study guide, Network+ Certification For Dummies (the newest edition), I was able pass the Network+ exam on my first try and with a great score no less. If you want success on the exam, this book and the Dummies book are the best references to use.

The good point of this book...it conveys the information in an easy to read manner. Most of these textbook type reads put me to sleep. The bad point of this book...as others have mentioned, the typos are difficult to look past. But if you can get past the fact of a wrong word used at the wrong time and a period thrown in here and there where it shouldn't be...give the book a try.

This book is laden with stuff useful for anyone dealing with networks on a support level. However using this book as a primary source is a bad bad idea. The spelling, grammar, and factual errors left me with a "duh" a few times. The chapters are out of sequence as far as any type of learning curve (more often than not other chapters are referenced to explain something that's being explained in the beginning chapters). It's very long winded too. I doubt anyone who has read this from cover to cover once can remember nitty gritty details when they hit the last page. The software test really bites too. The questions are WAY easier than what the real test covers. I'm sorry to say this book is out of the return policy timeframe for me. Get the ExamCram book instead.

i just got this book today. i just finished chapter 3 and i've found like a dozen mistakes (grammatical and straight-up errors).
but it appears to have good content. and most importantly: i'll probably pass the exam w/ this book.
the ebook included on the cdrom is helpful also.

I read this book, I took the practice exams cd that was included with the book. AND IT WAS TERRIBLE!!! The basic stuff was barely on the NETWORK+ exam. I think that Mike Meyer's Passport was even better than this bible book. I do not recommend this book at all. It just goes through some of the stuff but it is very redundant. I failed the first time I took the NETWORK+ because I changed a couple of answers at the end but then the next day I took it again, I passed with flying colors. I would recommend getting definitely the mike meyer's passport to network+ and another book besides this one as the main source.

After reading other Network+ books, I found this one to have many errors. I thought it's test questions at the end of the chapters looked like they were going to be better training material. Big mistake. One answer tells you one thing and the very next answer contradicts what the previous one just stated. I also read Ron Gilster's Network+ for Dummies so you would think the material would contain the same information. The Dummies book tells you a Brouter is found in the Data Link and Network Layer, while this book says it's on the Physical and Data Link layer. Inconstistent information and it's definitely not worth the money I paid. This book will be returned.
