Outdated Reviews,

This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-003) (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
The book which has these reviews posted under it is 2 edition (June 7, 2005) and the most recent review is dated April 22, 2005. So, my question is... How can these reviews be about this book? Looks like Amazon just took the reviews from a previous edition, but how accurate is that? Not very accurate in my opinion. Also, if you look at the actual book for the N10-003 exam (Network+ Exam Cram 2 (Exam Cram N10-003) (2nd Edition) (Exam Cram 2) (Paperback)), most of those reviews are also for the previous edition. Bottom line, these reviews aren't any help if they are not for the current edition of the book they are posted under. Poor job Amazon! :-(

Mistake Cram2,
By Steven Miller (Banff Alberta) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-002) (Paperback)
What amazes me is how something like this could ever be published. The book is a puny sub-200 page question and answer study guide with a minimum of four mistakes per chapter. Problems with this book include: outdated content, repeat questions, poor explanations to many of the questions, obvious incorrect answers, and sections of detailed answers that have no related questions. How hard would it be to go through this book and polish it up? I would only recommend this book as a memorization guide. If you have a good handle on the concepts you will be able to find your way around all the errors. As far as learning anything from it is concerned, I'd be wary of because of all the simple mistakes.

Great inexpensive test prep,
This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-002) (Paperback)
I purchased the Exam Cram 2 Network+ and the companion Network+ 500 Practice Questions Book. The 500 Practice questions on the cd were great way to test and increase your knowledge before taking the test. I passed the Network+ without a problem. The practice question book and cd would have received 5 stars but there were 11 questions with wrong answers and there was no way to update the data base online as most other cd study guides allow.

Excellent preparation tool.,

This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-003) (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
The practice CD that comes with this book is a fine study tool for Exam N10-003. When I installed the disk, I was given the option to download the update to the question base. I'm assuming that some of the questions others have complained about were corrected with the update. I couldn't find any wrong answers, and the explanations were right on target. These questions serve to drive Network+ concepts home. They may not be the exact questions that are on the actual test, but they sure do help in preparing you for the exam.

Good but not enough,

The questions are good and cover a lot of what's on the test. The CD that came with my book "Measure UP" was really good except for some incorrect answers and some typos. Usually if you select the actual correct answer it will show that you got it wrong, but if you read the description of the answer, you did in fact answer the question correctly.
I took the exam on 9/10/04 and passed with a 740 out of 900 (646 is passing) Even though this is the only thing I purchased and studied to pass my exam, I must state that if I didn't have a few years of network administration/troubleshooting under my belt I probably wouldn't be able to pass this exam. Again, I think this is an excellent book and more than half of the questions that I saw on the test were covered in these practice questions, but you will need to either read additional material for those lacking in experience, or you will need a couple years of troubleshooting under your belt to help you out. Thanks Exam Cram for your study guides and techniques. I'm off to go get my CCNA next!!

Unacceptably Inaccurate,
By
This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-003) (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
There are so many mistakes in this book it is almost completely unusable. The answer keys even gets some of the answers wrong which can be really confusing.
Then as other reviewers mentioned, many questions are slightly re-worded and presented again about four questions later, leaving this book with little value. It is completely unacceptable that this book does such a poor job at its single purpose. I want my money back.

Helped me pass the Network+,

This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-003) (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This book is quick to get to the point with chapters that are easy to read, the questions at the end of the chapters review the material covered, and the two test at the end of the book.
The only complaints are there it seems to be no consistency between the information presented in this book and other Network+ resources. Some of those examples are FTP ports, RAID, and backup solutions which are conflicting and leads to confusion. Also the test at the end of the book ask questions on material not really reviewed in the book. For example, password security share/user level, which was not covered at all in the book along with ranges of ip address (0-255) and what they can and can't be used for. Overall, would recommend the book for the Network+, just keep the inconsistencies down and authors need to provide all material for the tests.

Exam Cram2 needs better QA,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-003) (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
The primary reason I have purchased two Exam Cram2 books is because not only does each chapter have a set of questions and 2 practive exams at the end of the book, the questions and exams are accompanied by the answers, and get this, and explanation for the correct answer. Yes, I have read many technology text books, and most of them do not explain their reasoning for each answer. This encourages one to search through the book, which when preparing for exams is counter-productive. Heck, some texts don't even include the correct answers!
But this book's downfall is that some of the answers for the test questions contradict the text. I have not noticed this problem in the Windows XP Professional book. But both Exam Cram2 that I have suffer from many grammatical mistakes. I'm under the assumption they rush their products. I have not taken the certification tests yet, but I recommend the online MeasureUp exams at http://www.measureup.com (not free). Like the Exam Cram2 books, they explain the answers to the questions.

Very Helpful,
This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-003) (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This is the 3rd book I used to help me pass the Exam. First, I bought a big thick one, then a smaller one, and finally this one. The main reason I bought this book was for the questions: 650 practice questions! All the other training books just give you 10 questions per chapter; no way near enough to test someone. However, my suggestion is to not even use the book. Just use the CD that comes with it, becuase it has all the questions from the book, and you can grade your answer instantly instead of having to turn to all different pages.
I will admit though, there are some errors on questions. I've found quite a few mistakes in this book, but at any rate, these book really helps out. I took the test today and saw some quite a couple of similar questions from this book on the exam.

Frustrating,
By
This review is from: Network+ Certification Practice Questions Exam Cram 2 (Exam N10-003) (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
I'd say about 70% of the book's content is okay. Not an excellent measure of your networking knowledge, but a start. The other 30% is purely fluff. But when you add it all together, this book is 100% frustrating.
First the fluff part: You are asked a question about a given topic. Then you are asked virtually the exact same question again. Four questions later - Yep, there's that question again. Turn the page - again. Asking the same question (on the same page or within pages of each other) 3 or 4 times with little modification is such a waste of time. The knowledge can be tested in just one. If it is important enough to ask again, at least approach it from a different perspective. Second - and the worst part - was that time and time again the correct answer to a question was miss-marked in the answer key. For example, if the answer was supposed to be C. HTML, the detailed explanation of the answer in the back of the book would say something like "Yes! You're right: The answer is A. HTML," which also meant that the quick answer key was wrong as well. So, expect lots of extra work trying to decipher the correct answer and the confusion that usually comes with it. I must have come across this 20 or 30 times in a book with hundreds of questions. Simply unacceptable. Because of these two reasons, I nearly threw this book in the garbage a few times. Sad to say that the Exam Cram series' credibility - and Ed Tittel's famed "editing abilities" - takes a hit with this one. |
