5.0 out of 5 stars Network+ Fourth Edition, by Glen E. Clarke
I am an Associate professor at a community college and have been teaching Network+ for more than 10 years. After the recent certification exam change I had to review what was out there for the new exam. I am so glad this book was one I decided to take a look at. The book is to the point... check out the number of pages out there in some of the other study guides. Glen...

2.0 out of 5 stars network certification study guide, Third Edition
Network certification study guide, third edition it is kind long and boring. I would recommend powercertdotcom, they have the best illustrated network course on the land. They use visual animation and graphics which makes easy to understand the concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars Network+ Fourth Edition, by Glen E. Clarke, September 9, 2009
This review is from: Network+ Certification Study Guide, Third Edition (Certification Study Guides) (Paperback)
I am an Associate professor at a community college and have been teaching Network+ for more than 10 years. After the recent certification exam change I had to review what was out there for the new exam. I am so glad this book was one I decided to take a look at. The book is to the point... check out the number of pages out there in some of the other study guides. Glen has a practical down-to-earth style of writing that makes it easier for students to get a handle on new concepts. The review questions at the end of the chapter are really good. I also love how the book has hands-on labs right in the chapters, and if that is not enough there is a whole lab manual that comes on the cd. Finally, if all this isn't enough there is a practice exam that comes on the cd as well. Wow, quite a bit for the money.

With that said there are a couple minor tweaks that need to be made in the next edition.

1. The requirements listed for the Network+ exam in the intro are for the old exam.

2. I would like to have seen "N10-004" or "Network+ 2009 exam" somewhere on the front or back cover. I had to look at the publishing date to make sure I had the
right book for the new exam.

3. The practice exam that came on the cd is good but there is no way to control what chapters or exam domains you want to pull questions from.

With that said, I am looking forward to using this book over the next few years and will be the first in line for the 5th Edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Go Wrong, September 23, 2008
This review is from: Network+ Certification Study Guide, Third Edition (Certification Study Guides) (Paperback)
I used A+ for Dummies to pass that exam, but apparently you can't be a dummy if studying for Net+. I used this edition for my study for this cert. Glen E. Clarke is a great conveyor of ideas. Very good use of analogy. He can be long winded at times, but he finds a way to be entertaining even covering this not-very-exciting material.

Long story short, I used this book, and (comfortably) passed the test!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - All You Need for Passing the Network+ Exam, September 6, 2009

This review is from: Network+ Certification Study Guide, Third Edition (Certification Study Guides) (Paperback)
I just took the Network+ certification exam a few days ago and passed it with no trouble. What is excellent about this book is the fact that it is somewhat brief, to the point, and has lots of examples and exercises. Each chapter has short review, followed by a two-minute drill which highlights all the main points of the chapter. Also, each chapter has a very good quiz at the end of it.

Here is a secret, I don't have much networking experience (other than what I learned for the A+ certification), and for the exam, I didn't get a chance to watch the videos that come with the book, and I didn't even look at the two practice exams that come with the book! That tells you how much I learned by just reading the book. I suggest you read it carefully and try the practice exams. Reading the "two-minute drills" at the end of each chapter is an excellent review.

Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this one first, November 7, 2007
This review is from: Network+ Certification Study Guide, Third Edition (Certification Study Guides) (Paperback)
Very comprehensive and an easy read at that. TONS of test questions in the back of the book, plus you get the entire book on CD-ROM in PDF form. So you can leave the book at home and place the PDF's on your computer to read at work. I have yet to take this test, but I'm confident I will pass close to if not a perfect score all due to this text.
