Passed the exam, book helped me a lot!,
This review is from: Network+ Exam Cram 2 Lab Manual (Paperback)
Just passed the Net+ exam. I found this book through a link on the website www.technicalblog.com. While going through the labs in the book, I did have a few questions about some of the step by step instructions. They were answered quickly by the author on the above website. I also got some valuable information from other moderators on the sites bulletin board.I didn't really understand VPNs until going through the labs in this book. The questions (while I wish there was more) were very helpful as well. Amazing book for the money, I recommend!

The Network+ Lab Manual is an excellent book! The hands-on labs are very valuable and easy to follow. It feels like you have a personal guide walking you through every step of the way in accomplishing your task. I especially liked several labs that dealt with the Linksys router since there's nothing much to glean from the manual that came with it.I would definitely recommend this book to someone who wants to get a better understanding of networking. David's style of writing is simple, personal and direct to the point. There is a lot of information provided that I would definitely keep this manual as a reference guide. The support website is also full of additional information and resources.

I'm glad I picked this up. It helped me to pass the exam.Used this book & TestKing, and passed with an 831. (554 is the minimum, 900 is the max passing score). The exam cram books only have about 5 questions per section but if this book had more I probably wouldn't have needed any other materials. This is another example of a great Exam Cram book and I recommend this one to anyone looking to learn handson network+ concepts and pass the exam.

The best manual I have used to date.I am a network admin and was told three weeks ago to get the net+ cert (so I could keep my job). I took a one week class which was mostly theory and went to take the test and didn't pass it. I missed it by only a few points. Realized I needed more study and saw this book. After flipping through it I thought it to be a good buy, especially for the price! There were so many labs that all WORK! It was very helpful. And the support website is really good. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking to get into networking or who wants to get the net+ certification

I've just passed my CompTIA Network+ certification using this book and other sources.David Prowse's Network+ Lab Manual provides some great exercises, providing real experience required for understanding the topics covered by the Network+ exam. The book also gives clear and concise summaries of all the important areas of the exam, including the OSI model; Commonly used TCP/IP ports and network cabling types. Great Book! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone taking the Network+ certification.

Excellent book for starters,
This review is from: Network+ Exam Cram 2 Lab Manual (Paperback)
This book is really good for people who are thinking of getting into networking areas. The labs are very well detailed and self explanitory! When I had questions that was not answered in the book, the author offers a FREE tech support website. I had an answer within 24 hours. I am looking forward to seeing other books of Mr. Dave Prowse in the near future. This book is a must have reference for any novice or entry level technician.

Very good, top rating for this book. The review below was correct, it is not really a theory book, but then again, it says that it is a Lab Manual right on the cover! However, the theory that is there is correct. Learned a lot from it. The actual page count as of today is incorrect. The book is slightly less unless they count the roman numeral pages in the beginning of the book. CompTIA just changed the exam in May so I used the new Exam Prep for N10-003 to study, and they fixed a lot of the errors since the last book. And lo and behold, when I look at the technical editor of that book, it's the same name as the author of this book. I have read computer books by Michael Meyers, David Groth, and Charles Brooks, but have never read anything by this author David Prowse. Perhaps he is new to computer manuals, but either way I recommend this book, his work is as good as or surpasses the above mentioned authors. The labs are extremely step by step, you really can't mess them up. There are a lot of figures and screenshots and tips to help you along the way. A few of the labs could of used a few more screenshots like the Domain Controller labs, but all in all, an excellent product. The labs call for you to have two computers and a Wireless Access Point. However, you don't need a very powerful computer to run these labs. All in all, it cost me about $50 to get the rest of the equipment that I needed. I had 2 PII computers in my basement, and purchased the wireless card and router. It was worth it though, this is how I like to learn, from a hands-on standpoint. Plain theory books put me to sleep! The author also offers a support site. This site has free downloads, images, labs, and a lot more. I am sure others do this, but I have never seen an author offer a free webSite to readers for support. I would recommend this to people who are looking to get into the IT field, or who have the A+ certification, on up to network techs with 1-3 years experience. Although there are a few advanced labs, I don't think that a tech with more than 3 years exp. would benefit from this book too much. I recevied my Network+ cert and have had several questions answered on the book's support site as well. All in all, I am happy I spent the $23 on this book.

Just right, thanks!,

This book was beyond expectations. It offers many labs that are directly intertwined with the new exam. Keep in mind that it is not a theory book, although there is some theory. For additional theory, you would want to use the Net+ Exam Prep. But honestly, you probably won't need it, this book and the support website ([...], my second home!) are all I used. Passed easy. I had the author (david) as an A+ instructor 3 years ago and was wondering why he had never published anything. He was a great instructor and this book follows suit. The book starts simply with basic labs but then gets much more in depth. I especially like the domain controller promotion and the VPN labs. I recommend it to any students of networking.

This book is by far the best cert book I have ever read. It's extremely informative and presents the information in a manner that is easy to understand and learn. Mr Prowse goes so far as to offer up his techblog for assistance with any issues you may come across while reading the text and and doing the labs. Also, he is extremely helpful and responsive when you do need a questions answered.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to prepare for the Network+ exam. |
