Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

More of an exam-preparation companion than a primary preparatory text, Network+ Practice Tests (Exam Cram) is nonetheless a good investment for those serious about passing CompTIA's new Network+ exam. The book has more than 300 multiple-choice questions jammed into its four practice tests, and all questions are modeled after the format used in the actual Network+ exam. Some are extremely basic, drawing on one's knowledge of standard networking protocols and technologies, whereas other questions present what-if scenarios pertaining to network topologies, fault-tolerance, security strategies, and Internet-centric network problems and configurations.

Each practice test is followed by two answer keys. The first simply lists the correct choices for each of the questions; the second provides in-depth explanations of why the selected answers are right. For example, the explanatory text for a question having to do with Token Ring networking in the first practice test goes into which company invented Token Ring--IBM--as well as how it differs from Ethernet in terms of topology and packet transmission. In addition, each explanation ends with a reference to the pertinent chapter in Certification Insider Press's sister publication, Network+ Exam Cram. Not subtle, but a good way of tying the texts together. --Sarah L. Roberts-Witt

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent short book., April 18, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Network+ Practice Test Exam Cram (Paperback)
First of all have one thing clear, if you are not an expert in network, or already have a certification (like CNE or MCSE) don't buy only this book. This is a short book that only has sample test for you to feel confortable about the idea of taking the test. Also it is very good to find out where your weaknesses are. For example, I thought that I was clear on the OSI model, until I took the first test. I happens that I had data link and network layer mixed up at some level. So I went back to the other big book I bought (My main source of study, one that has about 800 pages) and read againt he OSI model. If I wouldn't have reviewed it, I would have probably fried out on the test. So all this BLA, BLA, BLA is let you know that you need a BIG BOOK (One that covers all the Network+ Objectives fully) and when you finish reading it, you get this book, sit down and try to answer all the question. When you make a mistake try to find out what went wrong, or what you didn't understand. Please slow down when reading, some questions can be tricky when not fully understood. Hope you pass the test.

I used this book of questions and the Sybex Net+ book to prepare for the Net+ exam. I studied for 1 month, and passed with a 900! I highly recommend this book, for the price you get quality questions and explanations to help you pass the exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get it to practice the test, December 8, 1999
This review is from: Network+ Practice Test Exam Cram (Paperback)
It is a good practice test book. I just get pass with this book and Exam Prep. I find the question is similar to, even same as the live exam. It is broad enough to cover the materials in the exam syllabus.

I would recommend 1)If you have get pass with other Cert. eg. MCSE, CNE etc., you can just need this book to pass the exam.

2)Otherwise, you may need this book and one preparation guide (Exam Prep - highly recommend) to help you to pass the exam.
