5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Well, I do agree with Carl that this is a great book-, but I can't figure the one star rating. The book helps reinforce exactly what's needed to pass the Net+ exam. The fact that it also helps some with the MCSE is an added bonus...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money like I did!, December 27, 2000

This book deserves less than a 1 star rating, if it were only available!

The CompTIA Network+ Certification Exam is supposed to be as vendor neutral as possible, while still recognizing the three major network operating systems. The authors of this Practice Exam book write the majority of their questions from the NT4 MCSE approach to networking. Even then, the questions were often confusing and misleading. The majority of their specific questions or their specific subjects do not even appear on the CompTIA exam.

This book was the low point in my preparation for the exam (which I passed quite easily using other study resources). The companion Syngress study book was a bit better, but contained several glaring errors. I checked their web site for errata, but found little in the way of help to help deal with the differences between this book and the other study aids I used.

In my opinion, the best books to prepare for the Network+ exam are the Network+ Exam Prep and Cram and the Network+ Certification for Dummies book. Even these have a few errors (but accurate errata are available on the web for the exam prep and cram), and they tend to go into greater depth than what is required to pass the exam, but if you really want to know your stuff in addition to having a CompTIA Network+ certificate to hang on your wall, these are the three books to have!

I wish I could get a refund on this book. It was useless in preparing for the actual test.

1.0 out of 5 stars Book is over kill, October 26, 1999

This review is from: Network +: Test Yourself Practice Exams (Paperback)
The book is actually well done, but; its like using a big hammer (BIG BIG hammer) to kill a very small (very very small) bug. It was written at an MCSE level. In fact it helped me pass my MCSE Network Essentials exam (but almost useless for my Network+ exam). I using part of it to prepare for the MCSE TCP/IP exam (it has a lot of good stuff). I'm very happy with the book. However I pity the poor soul using using it to pass the Network+.

3.0 out of 5 stars Network+ Certification Test Yourself Practice Exams, February 18, 2000

This review is from: Network +: Test Yourself Practice Exams (Paperback)
This book mostly provides practice exams. It provides a few hints about the test format, but mainly says that the test is very difficult.

The practice exams are much more difficult than the ones in the New Riders Network+ guide but lack very much diagnostic value. The answers do not tell you which section of the test you need to concentrate on. For example, if I got question 7 on the practice test wrong is that from Section I.1.5 of the Network+ test or Section II.3.6?

The book needs to be a lot more user friendly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepared Me Well. The Exam Seemed Easy, October 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Network +: Test Yourself Practice Exams (Paperback)
Unlike many such books, this one gave great preparation and many of the questions were on the exam. Looking back, the exam covered a LOT of material. But I passed it with flying colors the first time, and without having taken much time to prepare. I think I had a couple of very good weeks where my concentration was for some inexplicable reason excellent. But I must give credit to this outstanding book for being a useful tool. Well worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Way too much than you need to know for Network+, August 31, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Network +: Test Yourself Practice Exams (Paperback)
Actually, this was the first book I got for my Network+ exam. I read a chpater and I found that it was to hard to understand and it confused. It covers a lot of materials that I believed it would not be asked on the exam. I got the study guide from syber and exam cram series. Those were easier to read and more suitable for the level of Network+. However, this book may help you to understand and learn more in depth at the MCSE level or troubleshooting network problems for you job.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dont use it to pass Network+, too much info than you need, August 1, 2000
This review is from: Network +: Test Yourself Practice Exams (Paperback)
Well, I agree with other reviews that this book does contain a lot of information. But the questions in this book are too detailed and too many. Believe me, Network+ is a relatively easy exam. It tests you on the big pictures and doesnot go into too much details. If your goal is simply to pass the exam, I recommend the exam cram series' practice exams book which more accurately reflect the levels of the real Network+ exam. I am sure if you understand all the problems in this book, you will definitely pass Network+ ----> with a score of 200% instead of the 82% passing score.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful for passing N+, March 14, 2000
By
This review is from: Network +: Test Yourself Practice Exams (Paperback)
i find this book to be very useful, the practice exams are detailed in explainations. the great part of this book is that it has very challenging questions and once i have finished doing numerous practice questions I find myself very prepared to tackle the exam. Previous reviewer is right on the fact that it helps on the TCP/IP part of the MCSE...that is a nice added extra bonus...thanks to the authors...

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for passing the exam, April 6, 2000
This review is from: Network +: Test Yourself Practice Exams (Paperback)
What is the best way to prepare for any exam? What is the best way to make sure you understand material about any subject? Questions and answers. What if there was a book that would make learning Network+ easier and make your chances of passing greater?

Now there is and Network+ Test Yourself is just that book. The book is broken down into the two exam parts and each exam objective under that part. The questions are exam based and most importantly the answers are detailed which will help in clearing up any confusion you might encounter.

Part three is made up of three practice exams to give you an opportunity to see what kinds of questions you will get during the live exam. The books gives you over 1,000 questions and answers and best of all you can retry the practice exams over and over again.

Overall the cost of the book, the number of questions and the detail of answers makes this a good buy. If the book included a cd-rom with practice test that would certainly enhance the overall learning experience.
