4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonably thorough, not the only study guide to use however
Read and studied the material. Took some test exams. Found I needed more. Borrowed the Microsoft Net Essential study guide to get the remainder of what I needed. Used the Exam Cram Net Essential for review. Passed the exam first try!

2.0 out of 5 stars There are better books out there
There are better books out there but this is OK, it seemed to be beaten up here but I did not think is was *that* bad. I am putting the book up on EBAY though to buy more books. So this isn't a save-it-for-the-grandchildren book, I did pass the test how much this book helped is hard to tell.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be misled., August 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Networking Essentials Study Guide (Exam 70-58) (Hardcover)
I have read QUE's book, but I also bought this one because the cover touts to have more than 1000 sample questions. I thought it would be great practice. It turns out that it includes sample questions for all four core topics. There are only 366 questions pertaining to Exam 70-58, including the chapter questions. I feel cheated. The topics in the book are all over the place. No logical sequence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good material. Passed the exam the first time., June 12, 1999

This review is from: MCSE Networking Essentials Study Guide (Exam 70-58) (Hardcover)
A little background first: I'm 16 and a full time student. I read the entire book and prepared thoroughly for the exam (via the book's chapter tests and included software) in under two weeks. I took the exam and scored a 933 out of 1000. That should be enough credit for the book there, however I will continue. The information presented was very well explained and easy to read. Even if one is not considering attaining a MCSE certification but is interested in networking, I highly recommend this book. My only complaints about the book are it's occasional typos (which I've found all throughout Global Knowledge Network's books). Anyway, excellent book, and I recommend reading it to anyone who is interested in networking.

2.0 out of 5 stars I Hope There Is Better!, March 28, 2000
This review is from: MCSE Networking Essentials Study Guide (Exam 70-58) (Hardcover)
This is the second Osbourne I have used. I passed with an 866, but I do not attribute much to this book. The typos were annoying, and some material was grossly outdated (copyrighted in 1998!). Thank goodness for Exam Cram 3rd Edition. I think I will take everyone's advice and try Que next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book, for test and more., March 11, 2000
This review is from: MCSE Networking Essentials Study Guide (Exam 70-58) (Hardcover)
I was able to pass the test fairly easily with this book and some study guides off the internet.

Beyond that, the book teaches the subject well. Some of these books seem to only teach you how to pass the test. This one actually teaches the material. It was/is used as a textbook at my college, though, personally, I think it is too centered on MS tech to be the best choice for that purpose.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not!, August 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Networking Essentials Study Guide (Exam 70-58) (Hardcover)
I already had a networking essentials book (QUE), but bought this one because it touts to have >1,000 sample exam questions in its CD-ROM. This is blatantly misleading. There are only 366 questions pertaining to exam 70-58. The CD-ROM contains sample exams from all four core MCSE exams, and if you add them all up, they may total >1000. The book is disorganized. Topics are all over the place, with no logical sequence. Reading the book, I get the impression that the chapters were written by different people. Some topics are detailed, while others are only covered on the surface. There is a diagram of UTP cable that looks like it was penciled by a 4-year-old. This half-baked book isn't worthy of publication. My impression is that it was put together in haste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for pass this exam, August 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Networking Essentials Study Guide (Exam 70-58) (Hardcover)
They are some error (Lot in CD) but not too mucth. If you want to pass exam to became MCSE, buy the four Book Required (Networking essentials, NT 4.0 WRK, NT4.0 SRV, NT 4.0 SRV in INT). They are very good.

But not more !! For other exam try another book.

Good Luck

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book. All you need., June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Networking Essentials Study Guide (Exam 70-58) (Hardcover)
You can pass the exam using only this book. Very few MCSE study guides cover an exam A-Z, many need to be supplemented. But this book is all you need to pass the Networking Essentials exam.

I wrote the exact same review for the Networking Essentials study guide from Sybex. Both Sybex and Syngress have top-notch Networking Essentials study guides. I've read them both.

Definately the best study guide from the available Syngress study guides.
