practical NT TCP/IP,

This review is from: Networking with Microsoft TCP/IP (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
Heywoods book covers all the practical issues of using TCP/IP in a Windows NT environment. I studied it to pass the MCSE exam and come back to it as a reference. For a more complete study of TCP/IP also read Internetworking with TCP/IP Vol I by Douglas Comer.

This book covers pretty much every important thing there is in Microsoft TCP/IP. The explanations were very clear and use of drawings and figures were very helpful. I would recommend this book for anyone who plan on taking the Microsoft TCP/IP exam or someone who is just looking for a book for references on TCP/IP.

I used this book as the core training tool for TCP/IP. The sections were well done and right on target for my TCP/IP Test. I highly recomend this book as a reference for any TCP/IP library. I passed my test 1st time through - Nicely Done.

This is a great general reference for MS's TCP/IP. The writing is normally straight forward, and not as bland as the MS Press books. There are lots of useful diagrams and figures. For those studying for their MCSE, it'll help to flesh out any areas that those study guides just gloss over. It even includes sections on RRAS, PPTP, IIS, Exchange, and Proxy. At almost 900 pages, filled with excellent content, the price is more than worth it.

Clear and Understandable w/ Microsoft point of view,

This review is from: Networking With Microsoft Tcp/Ip (Paperback)
A great help to anyone dealing with TCP/IP and Microsoft at the same time. Heywood begins with a good theoretical overview and then provides specific, detailed examples. Unlike the many books on TCP/IP assume either a UNIX or a programming background, Heywood's book deals with TCP/IP from more of a network technicians view point. He provides a solid foundation to build upon.

I used to work at a university. I ordered this book to review as a possible replacement to a hideously outdated book that we were using. It's not bad. Maybe just a little harder to read than I had expected. The examples used in the book are good, and the author demonstrates a very good knowledge of the subject. I should say that I DID choose the book for the course, so that should say something about how good the book is (or how good the others were not). |
