Extraordinarily interesting grammar and culture book. The supporting materials are quite wonderful too. I especially like all of the signs, pictures, maps, newspaper cuttings, brochures, and other realia, that bring the words to life. The audio program is very clear and easy to work with. Certainly helps with comprehension of spoken German. The Videoecke are really fun, and seem quite authentic. In short, the language in this book seems closer to authentic spoken and written German than many other introductory books.

Bleh. Kann ich ein anders Buch haben?,

Don't make your students use this. Sure, there are only a few in text mistakes and the book offers interesting cultural details, but it is badly organized and certainly overpriced.
As a first time learner, I found it annoying to navigate all the chapters, searching for uses of the cases and randomly inserted irregular words. They give you the vocabulary useful for one chapter in another chapter, and the exercises are for the most part, horribly uninspired. Worst of all, rather than useful activities that would help me digest this complicated language, this book is stuffed with pointless exercise filler. The workbook, on the other hand, is decent.
