This review is from: Neurofibromatosis: A Handbook for Patients, Families and Health Care Professionals (Hardcover)
This is a must read for anyone with NF or anyone who has a loved one with NF. It has helped me with some symptons I have been having and I know have had the proper tests, now awaiting results. It is a MUST HAVE for ALL HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS.
I realized while reading the personal prospectives form individuals with NF that I took part in the study but was not used in the book.
I have my sister and niece to THANK for the book.
IT IS A MUST HAVE AND READ BOOK.

This review is from: Neurofibromatosis: A Handbook for Patients, Families and Health Care Professionals (Hardcover)
This is an excellent resource for anyone interested in or dealing with as a patient or as a family with NF. The book is actually a series of of well written articles about different subjects within the "NF world." Topics include "Neurological Aspects of Neurofibromatosis" by Allen E. Rubestein and Bruce R. Korf; "Communication Disorders in Children with Neurofibromatosis Type 1;" "Ocular Features of Neurofibromatosis;" "The Skin in Neurofibromatosis; "Learning DIsabilities in Neurofibromatosis;" "The Child with Neurofibromatsis." There is also an in-depth section on the Psychological Aspects of Neurofibromatosis.

The entire book is well written and put together. There are photographs (black and white) of different medical aspects of the disorder; charts; graphs and explanations of the disorder. Some of the photographs give graphic examples of characteristics that can often occur within the framework of someone dealing with NF (e.g. cafe-au-lait spots; tumors on the skin; lisch nodules; spine problems; etc.).

This is sure to become a seminal work on NF. I highly recommend this work to anyone who has an in-depth interest, either personally or professionally, in NF. I've looked high and low for books and information on NF and this one, so far, is the best. I speak as a person who has lived with NF-1 for their entire life.

5.0 out of 5 stars must read, July 28, 2008

This review is from: Neurofibromatosis: A Handbook for Patients, Families and Health Care Professionals (Hardcover)
My three year old son was recently diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis type 1 and I have been disappointed by the amount of medical literature avaible on the subject. This book was one of the most helpful I have come across in terms of NF. I have found that with NF, the patient needs to understand the disease enough to teach some medical professionals. Unless we are seeing a specalist, many doctors are unfamilliar with the disorder. This book is a must read for the physician and the patient.

I bought this book after I found some rave reviews on the internet. It's costly but worth every penny as it's full of so much relevant information! Thank you Bruce Korf for writing this book!
