2.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy connectors and grainy MPEG compression
I find this unit not very reliable for recording - the flimsy 1/8" connectors for A/V on the back cause video to come and go and I have to jiggle it to get a picture for recording - them sometime in the middle of recording it'll move just enough and leave me with a blank video screen with audio. OR I'll get the video channels but one of the audio channels will be off -...

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, July 18, 2006
This review is from: Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 Digital Video Recorder (Electronics)
I've been converting videos for my ipod since November, and just started converting for my PSP a month ago. I've converted hundreds of hours worth of video and used at least 3 different programs for each device. Nothing has given me anywhere near the video quality that this does.

I've bought TV shows on Itunes and watched them on my 27" TV and been amazed at how good the image quality was, but I've never been able to do as well with videos I've converted myself - until now. At the highest quality setting the recordings look just as good as anything I've bought on Itunes, and with 60GB of memory on my ipod file size isn't an issue. (I recorded before and after I installed a very recent firmware upgrade - if you buy this, go to Neuros' site and get the upgrade, it makes a difference)

Converting for PSP is easier than with any program I've used. You record directly onto the memory stick, and then just pop it into the PSP and there it is on the video menu. You only have to deal with the PSP's #&%$@# file naming requirements if you want to move the files off the stick to archive them.

The other big advantage this has over everything else I've used is that this is a one step process - you record it and you can watch it on your device immediately. Everything else I've used was 2 step: you recorded or ripped in real time, then you converted, in real time or longer. This is half the work.

There are only 2 real downsides: You have to hook up the video out to a tv because it has no display of it's own, and it has no memory you can record onto - you need a memory stick or cf card. A potential third issue is the remote - you need it to do everything, even turn it on, so you really, really don't want to lose it.

Overall, this thing is amazing. I wish I had bought it when I got my ipod. I could have saved over $100 that I spent on converting software, and a lot of time.

The product does everything it claims. However, they could have spent a few more hours and bucks working on the instruction manual, adding another LED to actually let you know the product is active when you hit the on button (because of the slight lag time between functions), not to mention adding a key pad to the top of the device. It took way to long to figure out how to set up this simple device, a couple of extra hints in the instruction manual would be of help, like: video output is on video one, etc. All in all the device is great once you've figure it out. The only items which keeps me from rating this device as the next best thing to sliced bread is the instruction manual and the lack of a attached keypad to the top of the device.

The Recorder 2 makes it trivially easy to get movies and TV shows onto my PSP. You pretty much just press the record button and it does the rest. Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use product....exactly what I was looking for!!, July 24, 2006
This review is from: Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 Digital Video Recorder (Electronics)
If you are tired of downloading multiple shareware programs and other buggy software to make your PSP perform as God intended, this is the product for you.

Works great right out of the box. I was up and running in 15 minutes. Easy, clear instructions and reliable hardware make this a real winner, imho.

Nothing is quite as cool as unlocking the true potential of my PSP. Now that I can watch the tv and movies I want to watch, instead of the couple of dozen psp titles on release, I can never go back.

This is amazing! When i bought this it changed the value of my psp and psp 1 GB mem. stick. It went from 300$ To 300,000$ in my mind. Now anything thats on t.v. i can watch on my psp. It also works an our comcast digital cable box, Satellite dishes, Tivo,Tv, Xbox, Ps2,Xbox 360 and any thing with the standard yellow cord in red cord in and white cord input it will work with. You simply pop you Memory Stick Duo and press rec. and it will record anything on your t.v screen, from you playing video games or watching the simpsons,Desperate Houswives,South park and Many other shows. Hint:you should have at least a 512 MB mem stick or else you wont get much use out of it

5.0 out of 5 stars The best way to transfer video to your Ipod and PSP, July 24, 2006
This review is from: Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 Digital Video Recorder (Electronics)
The Neuros Recorder will record video from any video source in MPEG4 and 3GP format. This device is the easiset way to transfer video content to your Ipod or your PSP. Maybe you have a stack of old VHS tapes and you want to transfer them all to MPEG4 format. Hooking the Neuros up is a snap. Connect the AV cables to your input and output devices, plug in the AC adapter, and insert your memory cards. Instead of buying video content from the Itunes store, you can record it yourself for free.

very user friendly and easy to use. great for those on the go who want to transfer & view their favorites shows, video clips, etc onto their video I-Pods. i know some older users/retirees who are non-tech savvy but have used this device to transfer VHS-formatted family and baby videos to bring along on their travels. would be great if a future version was a little more 'stylish', but functionally this is a very useful device.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as a VCR Replacement, March 22, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 Digital Video Recorder (Electronics)
The old VCR finally gave out, and besides that, we have no space near the new Sharp Aquos LCD flatscreen. The Neuros Recorder 2 is our replacement. Simple on-screen menus do the set up job, although since the unit has no tuner (keeping it very small - a plus), the TV channel must be preset and left on (muted sound OK). This works for us, as we use basic time shifting most of the time.

Our 2 GB Compact Flash card (sold separately) will hold about 2 hrs of programming in super fine mode. These are not for archiving programs, so upload them to your PC and burn a disc for that and erase the card and start over.

While the Neuros Recorder 2 was designed for playback on portable devices, with just 640x480 resolution, it actually is acceptable on our 32" screen when compared with the analog source programming.

We just got it and are starting use, but are pleased so far. If you have space limitations, routing issues with your TV signal cable, or just like a small elegant device, we would recommend this unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neuros is so customer support friendly!!, January 29, 2007

I just want to say that I bought this for my son for x mas. I could not get it to play back on his psp. Well I called neuros numerous times and I just want to say that they will go the extra mile to help you. Seems the product had a defect which they said was so unusual and I believe them. They emailed me a pick up and the next day they shipped out new one 2nd day air. The guy in support even set one up and used his own psp to walk me through the steps. NEUROS SUPPORT 2ND TO NONE. Thank you neuros!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Device, May 3, 2007

I had bought this blindly on a impulse buy at Comp USA's closing. Neuros has delivered in abundance. You can used any flash media to convert old VHS, DVD's or record you favorite TV shows. I travel and plan on using it to record and watch programes on the road. I don't have to convert to and format to play on a iPod and I can choose the resolution. I have converted over 80 VHS movies in the past month since I purchased it. All play quite well on TV, Computer, Palm Pilot, and iPod.

It is also so small. I used it to convert a famous beer movie take it to a German Bar and play the movie on the HDTV there flawlessly. I tuck the recorder in the ceiling tiles and everyone had a good time.
