In the past decade, there has been a wide and growing interest in the formation of intensive care units specializing in head injuries and other neurosurgical diseases. Written by a team of neurosurgeons, anaesthesiologists, and critical care specialists, this work focuses on the highly concentrated care and special needs of these critically ill patients. The work includes coverage of: methods of monitoring within the intensive care unit; the ICU management of cerebral ischaemia; the ICU management of the neuro-interventional patient; ethical issues of care withdrawal in the ICU; and brain death and organ donation.
