3.0 out of 5 stars What happened.....?, July 2, 2009
Well, first off I must say that I really enjoyed Crionics first two albums a great deal. I enjoyed each one better than the last and thought they were progressing into a stellar black metal band. Now, I want to know what happened?

Let me say that I'm all for a band progressing but this doesn't seem like a natural progression to me. They have completely changed their style and are no longer a black metal band, IMO. They have now adopted a style similar to fellow countrymen Behemoth and Hate, but with some trippy industrial type elements mixed in, a la Samael. Imagine throwing Behemoth and Samael in a blender and you have the new Crionics sound.

The musicianship is still top notch which makes the album stand on it's own and not come off as Behemoth clones. The vocals turned me off initially but I've listened to this enough now that I'm used to them. The singer sounds like he's trying to be more like Nergal from Behemoth or Adam from HATE only not as good as either of them. The black metal style vocal raspiness of the first two albums is gone and in my opinion so is the singers effectivness.

In closing, I do like this album for what it is but I miss the sound which made me want to listen to their first two albums as much as I did. I would reach for those first two records before this one. They should have changed their name because they sound like a different band entirely.

If you're looking for a great black metal album pick up either of their first two albums. If you're a Behemoth fiend and are looking for other bands similar in nature then pick up this record.

I hope their next album is a return to form but, if it's not, hopefully it will win me over and make me forget about the change in style and sound because this one has not done that.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent dosage of Blackened Death Metal, June 7, 2009
Length:: 3:42 Mins

Crionics has been active since 1997 and has been disemboweling metal fans with their chaotic and intense style of Blackened Death Metal ever since. The four members of the group all come from various other well known acts in the extreme metal universe, each is a master of his trade and each is unrelenting both live and recorded.

Neuthrone has a strict Death Metal base but such things as drummer Pawel Jaroszewicz utilizing chaotic blast beats through most of the album definitely gives the music a more aggressive Black Metal style. Their are extremely subtle but of superb quality keyboards that simply add to the music rather then water down the initial metallic sound. A very nice addition that definitely makes the music sound more modern rather then the same Death Metal we've all heard for years.

Through out the album vocalist Quazarre uses a vibrant range of styles from deep growls to higher pitch screams and even some distorted dialog scattered here and there. The guitars are easily a focus point and we hear a wide assortment of crushing riffs and several well executed solo/break away points for lead.

Included with my quaint review is the official Music Video for the track "Humanmeat Cargo". Truth is this isn't really anything ground breaking and to most whom prefer this style it will probably be just another album. But it is a solid showing and through it is getting bad press from fans of other band's in the genre I don't see how anyone could detest this and like bands doing a similar style. Simply a nice addition to any Death head's collection, just don't expect it to be the greatest Death album of all time.
