We have had a Neuton 5.1 mower for some time. We love it. Once you go electric you can never go back. No gas, no fumes, no yanking, no tune-ups, no oil, mowing heaven. I personally think you'd have to be nuts to even consider going gas if you needed a new mower. I haven't even mentioned that gas mowers are INCREDIBLE polluters. Taking into account the pollution used to create the electricty for Neutons, Neutons still pollute a small fraction of what gas mowers do. Anyhow if you are here you probably have a Neuton but in case you were considering one, I say great move to get a Neuton or at least an electric mower.

But one of the nicest things about the Neuton is this attachment. I have always had problems with hand held edgers and trimmers to get the things to work and to advance cord, even with auto advance. The Neuton attachment advances the cord automatically and flawlessly. The replacement cartridges are easy to install and last a long time. It is super easy to use. Just stick in front and flip the power switch to aux and away you go.

It is very powerful as an edger and does a great, clean job. It also is very powerful as a trimmer. The only thing to keep in mind is that it does have limitations as a trimmer. It will go up and down when you raise and lower the Neuton but obviously does not have the range of heights a handheld trimmer would. So for trimming high hedges this will not work. But for trimming around trees, and flower beds, and our herb and vegetable gardens this works great.

Highly recommended as is the Neuton. And, again, if you take care of your own lawn, sell on Ebay or give away your gas mower now and get an electric. I would highly recommend cordless. Almost anyone who I have ever talked to that had one bad thing to say about an electric mower was because it was corded and a hassle. Electric mowers are the best thing to happen to lawn care since...well since people started having lawns.

Shortly after my purchase of the Neuton CE 5.2 mower, I purchased the Edger/Trimmer attachment. Best idea yet. Does a great job on not only straight edging, but goes around curves equally as well. I no longer have to wear earplugs when trimming, and lug around a separate appliance for edging and trimming. This edger attaches directly to the mower. No more backaches carrying those heavy trimmers around.

I was hesitant at first because of the added expense for this attachment. Let me assure you, that this is WELL WORTH the money.

I highly recommend the Neuton CE 5.2 mower and the Edger/Trimmer attachment.

Let me stop you right here before you continue reading: If you're purchasing this product because you think your old trimmer accessory is broken and won't work, try hooking up your trimmer to the mower and flicking the toggle switch back and forth several times before attempting to run it again. I didn't call customer service before ordering another trimmer - instead doing so after I had already purchased a new one - and this tip turned out to be the issue. My old trimmer was just fine.

Having said all that, this is a great product and saves me so much time and frustration when edging and trimming the lawn. It sees weekly use during the spring and summer season and does a very good job. Being on a corner lot with a separate curb strip, there is a LOT to edge. This trimmer saves so much time, and it's so easy to use. Pro tip: Save the plastic reel housings and purchase separate trimmer line, then spool it up yourself.

I don't know if it was my sister (for whom the complete setup was purchased) who was using it when it shattered, or it was on the "borrowed roster". I did not witness the demise, and that is immaterial at this point.

One main point is that it is not covered by the same warranty terms as the mower, although bought together and no mention was made of the different terms (ANYWHERE).

I spoke with Neuton customer service and they had difficulty finding the part number listed on my "exploded view". I did purchase a replacement part through customer service that should have facilitated repair, but it was different than the original and incompatible. I guess the unit had undergone a redesign since I ordered the original.

Now, I am faced with either purchasing a new one, or a standalone unit like the Sun Joe TRJ600C Trimmer Joe 20-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless String Trimmer/Edger with One Battery and Quick Charger.

Either way, I have to invest yet more cash to replace the means to get the edging accomplished.
