For the first day or two I was really happy with the product. My skin felt very clean and not to dry. After a few more days though I noticed my skin becoming more and more sensitive and irritated. I have broken out worse than i have in a really long time and my skin is dry flaky red and sometimes painful. I went out and bought an Olay cleanser today because I couldn't stand another day with this product. I guess "Natural" doesn't mean gentle.

I've been trying to find a replacement for another face wash. But the fragrance in this makes me sneeze and it makes my eyes itch and water.

I have adult acne (I know, join the club). I've tried other Neutrogena products made specifically for acne, as well as some products made by other companies. A lot of them tended to make me break out more, or didn't prevent break out episodes. I saw some ads about the new Neutrogen naturals line. Although not advertised specifically as an acne treatment, the product description mentions that it is suitable for those with acne. I've been using the purifying facial cleanser for about 6 weeks now, and found that this is the best product I've found for me and my adult acne. I like the fragrance, and do not find that this dries my face out. After using it regularly, I have had almost no breakouts. I've dealt with the two or three small pimples during this time period by using the Neutrogena spot treatment. I plan on sticking with Neutrogena Naturals.

Unfortunately, I've also learned that everyone has to try these types of products for themselves. Many other products I've tried that did not work for me had lots of good reviews. All I can say is give this one a try if you're on your search for a good facial cleanser.

I was SO HAPPY when I discovered this in the isles of Walmart. A natural face cleanser with the Neutrogena name? Brilliant. I checked out the ingredient list of course, and then impulsively purchased it. All the ingredients are plant-derived except for one (I think. I don't have the bottle with me). It has a liquid (more on the gel side than the water-y side) consistency and a weird smell - not bad, but definitely shouldn't be made into a perfume anytime soon. Some days, I would dilute it a bit with water and some days, I wouldn't but I always got the same results in the shower: stinging and after the shower: not that great.

It wasn't a horrible cleanser (my face did feel clean), but it didn't give me results that I wanted. It made my combination skin quite flaky and greasy...not oily, but greasy and while it cleared some whiteheads on the sides of my face, it gave me acne on my neck...It was weird. I don't like it, but I will have to try the other products before I can completely discard this one as I really liked that the packaging was "green" (the ink was printed onto the bottle and not paper on top of the bottle). And if I remember right, the ink was made of soy. But I could be wrong. Overall, it was just a weird experience.

One thing I DID NOT notice when I bought my first bottle in the store was that this product contains Salicylic Acid. Usually Salicylic Acid content is something cleansers try to brag about, and put in big letters on the label. I skimmed the back and didn't see the usual "SALICYCLIC ACID 0.3%", so I figured it didn't have any.

What I missed was:
"This face wash contains natural salicylic acid found in Willowbark bionutrients to penetrate..."

If you're looking for an SA cleanser, look no further. But, while SA may work for a lot of people, there's an equal number out there where it usually has the opposite effect, and I'm one of them. After bad experiences with a number of different SA-based cleansers I'd sworn it off, until purchasing this cleanser without realizing it contained the acid.

Truth is, I've been happy with it, so I'm going to keep going. Maybe the SA content is extremely low, or perhaps the naturally-derived variant of SA isn't as bad, but either way I can't argue with the results, which have been generally positive. This is gentle enough to use twice a day, has a fairly mild fragrance (though I wish it didn't have any at all), contains no oils, and has a short list of ingredients. That's all I want out of a cleanser, so it gets 4 stars from me.

I can't say enough good things about this product. I've slowly made a strong move to replace all of my older "toxic" skin/hair care products to natural ones. I don't use products containing parabends, phthalates, sodium laureth sulfate, etc. Nobody knows the long term effects of these checmicals, and I'd rather not find out. The problem with "going natural" is the extreme cost of most products. Very expensive. This cleanser however is very modestly priced, has s a nice mild smell, and does the job. It doesn't break the bank either. I'll never stop buying this, so I hope Neutrogena doesn't stop making it. Other companies charge $28 for a similar size of their "natural" face cleanser. Keep it up Neutrogena, and introduce a natural face moisturizer too!

I was really excited to try this product but it disappointed me. The first thing I disliked was the intense fragrance. I couldn't rinse enough to get the fragrance off my face. The product was also irritating to my skin (I have sensitive skin and rosacea). The redness flared up badly, and it lasted for four days although I stopped using this product right away. I'm no longer drawn in by the "natural" claim on products - what does that word really mean in this context? It's not defined by the FDA or any scientific source; it can mean whatever the manufacturer wants it to mean -- and just because something occurs in nature that doesn't make it safe or desirable to put on your skin (poison ivy for example!). Also "not tested on animals" makes me wonder - maybe this product was never animal-tested, but some of the ingredients have been (I'm a chemist and I research ingredients). I wanted to like it, but for my sensitive skin it wasn't a good choice.

I don't have sensitive skin but this made my skin burn and break out in a rash all over my face for a half hour. I normally use the regular neutrogena face wash but its been out of stock at my local target & walmart the last couple of times I went by so I decided to use this in the meantime. It stung a little the first few times I used it but by the 5th time I had to throw it away because it looked like I had been badly sunburned. Eventually the little blisters went away without leaving marks. I found the regular neutrogena at double the price at a local pharmacy but it I gladly paid it since it has never harmed my skin.

I was excited about purchasing this product, for I was hoping that I found a cleanser that would effectively clean my skin with no hassle. Much to my dismay, this was not the product for me. After a few weeks of using it, I noticed I had several pimples on my forehead and on my cheeks. My skin became more oily. I am very upset, because my acne has never been this bad. If you have acne prone skin, beware- this product will make your skin oily and cause you to break out.

I was running out of my normal cleanser so I picked this up at the store along with the matching moisturize. BIG MISTAKE! I don't have super sensitive skin so I was very shocked when I woke up the next morning after using them completely broken out w/ hives and pimples all over my face. I am completely blotchy and red. I have never had a reaction to anything like this. Some may like this, but it is a NEVER AGAIN and IN THE TRASH from me.
