This product will not treat existing acne! It is, however, part of a solution for treating/preventing acne. It's important to know what this product is for. I'm in my late 20's and never really did anything about my acne. I've always had mild acne on my back, chest, and face. A couple of months ago I decided to take it seriously. I bought Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub, a similar product, and used it religiously twice a day on my face, for two months, in addition to taking two showers a day instead of one. During this time, the acne on my face would go away, come back, appear in different spots, just as it always has. Towards the end of the two month period, the pimples on my forehead became huge all over my face much larger than normal - the type that you feel bulging out of your skin and are painful if they come into contact with anything. I thought this product was the reason why it was so bad (since you use your fingers to apply the product) so I stopped using it and decided to make an appointment with a dermatologist. After calling 5 dermatologists and finding that none of them had any available appointments for months, I decided to research how to treat acne. If you google "treat acne" the 2nd link on "howstuffworks" provides lots of info.

Basically, dead skin cells continuously make their way to the outer surface of your skin where they form a protective layer against bacteria. Meanwhile, in hair follicles an oil called sebum is produced which also makes its way to the outer surface. However, if there's too many dead skin cells or an excessive amount of sebum, it will be block pores and the sebum and skin cells won't escape and eventually form bacteria - "acne".

This has the same cleaning power as regular Neutrogena but with a much better smell. I noticed with the orange version that my skin had a medical smell to it. This grapefruit scent is more than acceptable and leaves my skin feeling clean and tight. It does a good job of removing make-up. The 2% salicylic acid is the same strength and cleans as well as Murad, but for far less cost. The other Murad substitute that NEutrogena has is the Rapid Clear 3-in-1 Acne Treatment, which is equivalent to Murad's 2% salicylic acid gel (but again at a much lower cost.) These two products used at night, combined with an SPF 30 moisturizer in the day, make my skin very clear. You have to just continue it even as the gel "boils" the acne to the surface at first. Once the skin is clear, if you continue to use these, then your skin will stay clear. Much less expensive than MURAD!

I know that acne-fighting products work differently for everyone, but this just didn't work for me. I have fair, sensitive skin (I am a redhead). My skin has relatively normal texture: neither excessively oily nor excessively dry. As a result, I would get the occasional pimple but didn't have a true acne "problem." Unfortunately, for the last two years I have been breaking out more severely. My breakouts usually occur as inflamed red bumps (no whiteheads or blackheads). These breakouts are on my chin and forehead, and sometimes my nose. Anyway, I really wanted to like this pink grapefruit cream cleanser but as I said, it did not diminish my acne. I gave it two stars because I loved the scent as well as the fact that it was a cream cleanser (as I have found liquid or foaming cleansers to be too drying). Anyway, everyone's skin is different, so this may work for some, but I am still looking for the product that will work for me.

My aesthetician adviced me to buy this product. She said it has just the right amount of acid. I had been exofoliating a lot b/c I have lots of black heads on my nose, which annoys me, but she said to use this instead because over-exfoliation can cause your pores to just get even bigger. This removes the old skin without irritating the pores.

So I read the reviews and bought it on Amazon. My skin can be a little sensitive, so I started out by mixing it with some creamy/foamy face watch to cut down the strength of the product, and thus not totally dry out my skin, and it worked! It did not dry me out, and I have now switched to using the product without mixing it with the other face wash, and I'm still not drying out my skin. It just feels clean and soft.

I highly recommend this product, as long as you start of slowly!

After trying several other cleansers for acne, I bought this for my daughter who had recently started to break out. My daughter loves the creaminess and the smell of this product. She uses it everyday, morning and before bed - followed by an oil free moisturizer. I noticed a difference in her complexion within a week! Her skin looks much clearer and less red. Other products dried out her skin and she found the acne scrub products irritated her skin making her blemishes look worse and actually impeding the healing process. Bottom line, the cream version works and I will continue to buy it for my daughter!

The image showing is not the same as the product received which has a new formula sign on the upper right corner. By comparing the new and the old ingredients list, the new formula removed Aloe leaf extract,Anthemis Nobilis flower extract, and Matriciaria flower extract.Even though the active ingredient is still 2% salicylic acid, the inactive ingredients has changed a lot and so are the smell, texture, and the feel. Honestly, the first time,it smells like insect spray but now I get used to it. The new formula has menthol which makes you feel like cold breezed after use. Perhaps, they try to give you a false sense of cleanness. However, I would not buy it again unless it returns to the old formula. New formula sucks.
