Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
In essence, the Wave is a pore cleaner that works by gently vibrating your skin to shake loose the contents of your pores. This is NOT meant to be an exfoliator or toner. It does its job exceedingly well, which surprised me. I have tested many, many skin care products over the years, and was quite cynical about this one working. Really, it does.

First, the theory. Your face is full of pores - i.e. holes that go downward into your skin. Dirt, sweat, make-up and other junk gets stuck in those holes. That is what forms blemishes. The more dirt and such you have in your pores, the more they are "pushed open" and the bigger they look. Keeping them as clean as possible also makes them as small as possible, so your skin has a smoother overall look.

This small handheld device lets you attach a pad to the face of it, then you moisten that pad to get the soap going. It isn't a "big foaming" soap, it's a very subtle one. Again, the aim is not to cover your face with foam. It's for the vibrations to get the small amount of gentle foam down into your pores. Pores are small :) You hold that vibration on one spot, to vibrate open the pores beneath the device. You don't want to "drag" the wave, like you would with an exfoliant. The aim is not to drag the pores open. It is to shake them up gently to loosen their contents, so that the washing stage gets those contents out of your skin. So you put the wave onto various parts of your skin, in order to do that. Then you rinse the junk all free. If anything your aim is to open the pores as little as possible, so that once the junk is shaken out of them, they can close up to a small size.

So that this process doesn't take all day, the wave face is relatively large - about the size of a half dollar. This is good in the sense that you can do your entire face in under 10 minutes, but bad in the sense that it doesn't fit well in those big-pore areas along the nose. I understand this was a tough compromise for them to make. If they'd made the unit smaller, people would complain about how long it took them to get their entire face done.

I like how easily the pads go on and off the sticky face, but it seems really odd to me the pads come in a non resealable foil pouch. There's no way at all to even "fold over the top" to keep them moist! That's a pretty simple fix for them to have made. That being said, there's really no way I'm going to go out and eternally buy pads for a device. I would just use cotton balls with my own Neutrogena acne soap (which I use daily and *love*). This would get me my favorite soap option along with the pore-cleansing capabilities of this device.

I really do find that this shakes loose dirt that normal cleaning cannot get to. My pores look much cleaner and smaller after using this device. I have no doubt that using this is gentle on your skin - I have rosacea and acne and my face will definitely flare if something bothers it. I haven't had any problems with this. I wonder though if most people will have the patience to use this properly. It's not a quick-use device. The whole way it works is to work section by section, shaking loose the dirt, cleaning out the pores in that one spot. I think most people want to do a quick pass with soap or exfoliant or whatever and get on with their life.

It's one of those investment things. If you invest the time to keep your skin clear and healthy, it will reward you by looking wonderful and doing its job of keeping you safe from germs. If you want a quick-fix to just soap off the outer layer of grime - or exfoliate off the outer layer of skin - you won't get the same results. So I highly recommend this as something which does take time to use, but you might be surprised at just how much better your pores are if you do invest that time and effort.

My only complaints are about the pads, and like I said, there's a solution for that.

After fighting with the hand held wave power cleanser/massager in an attempt to install the battery (it was almost like trying to remove a "child proof cap" from a prescription bottle)I prepared for my first use of the item.

My observations are as follows:
1. The pads do not really "suds up" and left me wondering if there was actually any product in them.
2. The vibrating "massage" was pleasant enough and obviously was doing something to my skin since after the second use I noticed a breakout of a few small "pimples".(Could it be that it cleansed impurities in my pores and brought them to the surface?).
3. After a week of use the pimples cleared up and my skin did appear to have a more refined look.

Overall I would say that the product does perform as advertised. It is a "Power Cleanser". Do not expect that it will diminish your wrinkles or make you look like you've had professional skin resurfacing. What you do get using the power wave is a healthy glow from the stimulation the massager provides and a clean face. (What more could a gal ask for??)

This review is from: Neutrogena Wave Power-Cleanser and Deep Clean Foaming Pads (Health and Beauty)
This power cleanser rocks! On the package it says," you will have smoother skin in 1 day". And guess what... they are right. It gives you a 2 week supply of pads, the one I got at Target gave me a bonus of 2 week extra pads. I definetly notice smoother skin, but I see a glow to my once dull skin. It also helped with my acne b/c now my pores are open to have a more concentraded effect with my acne solutions acne kit form Neutrogena. Anyone who wants to brighten up their skin and help with pimples and more, should really get this power cleanser. At Target it only cost me 11.99. Neutrogena you did it again, another fabulous product. Fabulous price, for sure. A must have for all women and teens!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, February 4, 2008
Neutrogena has produced a great product for washing your face - The Neutrogena Wave!

The Wave ( it comes as a Starter Kit ) is a hand-held vibrating cleanser and comes with two trail packs of pre-soaped pads and the necessary AA battery.

The size of the Wave is perfect. It fits easily and comfortably in your hand and is about 3 inches in size ( approximately the size of your palm ). Small, half-dollar sized, pre-soaped pads are placed on the head of the Wave - and this is wonderful, mild Neutrogena soap. You activate the soap by running the Wave under some water. You then turn on the Wave with a push button and that's it. You're all set to use the Wave - moving it over your face. When you're done - you pull off the pad, and throw it away. Simple.

The soap pads are very easy to use. You just place them on the head of the Wave. The head is designed to "grab" the pads. There is no pushing, no connecting, no messing with anything - just put them there.

My favorite thing about the Wave though, is that it can be used at the sink or in the shower. Yes, in the shower! You don't have to make an extra stop at the sink to wash your face before jumping into the shower. Yipee!

The vibration of the Wave is just perfect, gentle - it is NOT abrasive and it does not move in circles or brush against your face. You don't end up with patchy red areas!

The soap on the pads is mild and soft and leaves your face feeling wonderful. Neutrogena is famous for it's soap, and using it once, you know why.

Because both the vibration and soap is mild - you can safely use the Wave every day, anytime you wash your face. You don't have to be concerned with using it too often or it being too rough on you. I use it daily without any issues at all.

Travelers : This item is small and you can easily put it in your make-up case or travel-pack.

I got the pink colored Wave, though I have seen green and blue colors available.

My only issue with the whole package is that the pre-soaped pads do not come in a re-sealable pouch.

All and all, though - This items is great and I highly recommend it.

This item includes : Wave Cleanser device, 14 pre-soaped pads and a AA battery.

Refill pads, in sets of 30, are required after you use the initially supplied 14.

The Neutrogena WAVE is a electric cleanser and deep cleaning-foaming pads (14 day supply included along with a 1 AA battery). The gadget cleans deeply using deep pore cleansing tingly foam. The vibrating motion of the pad stimulates the skin's surface with a massaging action to open pores and remove more dirt than your regular manual scrub. Also, the textured pads subtlety sweep away dead skin cells. My thirty-something wife and my ten-something daughter absolutely LOVED IT! There are immediate results: softer, smoother skin after just the first use. My daughter suffers from rough skin patches, which the WAVE treats very successfully. To use the Wave, simply install a disposable single pad to the head and push the switch to turn it on. You hold the water resistant power-cleanser under running water, and light foam appears from the pad. Move the pad over your face, to massage the foam into your pores to remove dirt and makeup. The Wave is gentle enough to use daily. Don't apply to close to the eye area, though. One complaint my wife had was some initial difficulty locking the AA battery in place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, February 1, 2008

My skin is usually blemish free and soft, but I love trying new facial products. I thought my skin was soft before, but this made it even softer after only one use and it had a great glow to it! I don't agree with the previous review that the battery case was hard to open. I didn't have any problems with it. I do agree, however, that the pads don't really 'suds up' like in the commercial, so I added just a dab of my own cleanser and it worked great. I definitely would recommend this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Daughter Loves It and Wants More Pads, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Neutrogena Wave Power-Cleanser and Deep Clean Foaming Pads (Health and Beauty)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Upon receipt of this item, I promptly gave it to my 17 year old daughter to try out. She is a competitive swimmer, and is always looking for better ways to clean her skin, which is often in poor condition from the exposure to so much chlorine.

She came looking for me while she was using it the first time to tell me how great it was. Being a true skeptical male, I told her to use it "for a while" and let me know what she thought. She told me several days later, after twice a day use, that she wanted me to find more pads.

Her comments were that she could feel her pores open up and really feel deep cleaning. She also said her skin tingled...not in a bad way, but in a way that made her face feel "invigorated". According to her, this is the best thing she has used in several years and hopes to use it for "a long time".

1.0 out of 5 stars Wave what a Waste, March 17, 2009
I purchased a pink Wave on a Thursday and by Monday morning it didn't work. I contacted Neutrogena and they nicely sent me coupon for another. I purchased the second one at a different store and that one lasted about one a half weeks. It says it's wather resistant, but due to the design water gets in and it stops turning on. When it did work, it worked great but to have to turn around and replace another one is so not worth it.

This review is from: Neutrogena Wave Power-Cleanser and Deep Clean Foaming Pads (Health and Beauty)
I'm from Colorado, so I'm used to dry weather that keeps my oily skin at bay. But when I came out to visit a friend in Chicago, the humidity made my face break out immediately. I was washing my face every few hours just to keep it clean, because the oil production was just insane in this humidity! Enter the Wave. I've been going through a Neutrogena phase lately, so I decided to see what they could offer me.

When I first saw the Wave on tv a few months ago, it seemed very gimmicky, and I had no intention of buying it. However, when I saw the positive reviews all over the internet, I decided to try it out. SOOOO glad I did. It's such a deep clean! I immediately noticed that my skin was softer and cleaner than I was used to. After one use, I even saw that most of the blackheads on my chin and nose that I'd just accepted as a way of life back home had disappeared. Apparently the vibrations managed to wrestle the dirt and bacteria right out. Over a few uses, my skin is cleaner with fewer blackheads, and I've noticed a positive change in complexion. I'm definitely recommending this for a deep clean, especially for those of you unfortunate enough to live in humid areas. =)
