It has beautiful photographs and the cover will catch your eye. When you do a brief scan of the book you seem to pick up that you will be treated to a well-rounded approach to Nevada's brief, but spectacular 150 years of statehood. What I got from the book was.... Las Vegas. Really??? The rest of the state is there, but I felt kinda of let down. I have to explain to many people that Nevada is not just Las Vegas and Reno, that we do have other communities and where I live there is a Naval station. That baffles enough people to think the US Navy operates a base in the desert, until you tell them we are also home to "Top Gun." I'm not saying don't buy the book, but look at purchasing "Nevada's Ghost Towns and Mining Camps" to give you the rest of the story.

This is a truly disappointing tome. As a virtual native Nevadan, I was very unhappy with the contents and especially displeased to find ads in this book based on southern Nevada solely. While understandably these were companies who helped pay for the production of this volume, it was all too self serving and also there were some serious exclusions regarding the rest of the state, IMHO. I ended up giving the book to my brother, since he is more the family historian than I. In truth, I could have saved my money though and not bothered at all. Considering this was a celebration of 150 years of statehood, m'thinks our Black Rock Press based at UNR would have been the more proper base for the output of such a potentially important piece of history!

For those who know nothing about Nevada it is a great brief introduction. Great pictures. There is no way to cover all the fabulous history of this Silver State in one book. Read more Nevada books to go with this one! An added note, Amazon sent me TWO copies of this book a couple of weeks apart. I only ordered ONE. They refused to take a return on a book I did not even order and just try to contact anyone at amazon!!!! lots of luck!! C

This should have been planned to reflect Nevada over 150 years in all it's glory with stories of success and triumph over adversity. The book seems to deliberately neglect to mention valued and historic cities and entities in the state, in favor of LasVegas Casinos and hotels including portraits of the gaming executives. I found it very offensive. There is so much more to Nevada than LasVegas Casinos and gaming.

Nevada, 150 years Silver State

This book is a real treasure of information about Nevada. I am a native Nevadan and found a lot of information about my state
that I didn't know. The pictures chosen added another informational dimension.

This is a wonderfully created coffee table book, and is especially significant because one of the contributors was a friend all the way back to our third grade. Sadly, she has since passed away. I will treasure this always.
