well, I loved it, at least,

Maybe I'm a naturally depressed/pessimistic individual, but I love all of Kelly's music, dark and depressing or not. I love this song -- it's full of raw emotion, even if it does seem as if she's yelling some of the time. I will admit, I am biased. I voted for her during American Idol and was thrilled when she won, but only because I didn't like Justin, and her first album turned me off altogether -- I thought it was weak, overly poppy (and this is coming from a girl that loves pop music), and didn't showcase her voice well, like when she sang 'I Surrender' by Celine Dion in AI. I was absolutely stunned by the strength her voice gained, as well as the rockish edge her music gained in Breakaway, and I'm glad it's still there. I hope all of her music isn't based on personal experience, but the way she expresses pain and anger in her songs is beautiful, and I hope her career lasts for some time to come.

Darker side of Kelly,
By
This review is from: Never Again (Audio CD)
Kelly Clarkson returned this year with the darker sound of "Never Again", a song full of anger and hate. Vocally she has never sounded better. While I prefer Kelly singing pop instead of rock, it is still a listenable song that takes Kelly in a deeper direction than we are use to hearing her sing. I think it's better than "Walk Away" or "Since U Been Gone" (both I thought were highly overrated). Overall a nice and welcome return from Kelly Clarkson. I reccomend this if you like Kelly Clarkson but are looking for a different sound from her.

An Honest Artist,

I'm glad I went with my gut and bought this album instead of listening to the gossip about the Record Label saying the album wasn't good enough. You cannot listen to this album and not realize what a legend in the making we have going here. I admire that Miss Clarkson held on to her integrity and went with her own true artistry instead of doing those pop manufactured pop songs so many artists are willing to sell out for.
You will not be disappointed. Check out the beautiful and sometimes heartwrenching ballads. She shines is "Sober," "Irvine" and "Be Still." "Don't Waste Your Time" and "Judas" would be great for radio. My favorite so far is "Maybe." Going back to listen again!

Surprised,

I have to admit I am not the biggest fan of American Idol. However, the last couple of times I have seen Kelly Clarkson perform I have become a fan of her. This new album is surprising to me because it is very raw and electric sounding. I didn't think she had it in her. My favorite songs are the first "Never Again", I blast it in my apartment all the time(sorry neighbors) and the last song "Irvine", this song is very haunting and it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. This is a great cd to listen to if you have ever been dumped. I know that she had to fight with Clive Davis to get this album out. I am really glad she did.

Haters - Stop Hatin'
This lover scorned anthem is brilliantly bitter and a great song for playing air drums. Don't ask me how I know. Put on a pair of noise cancelling headphones and let it reverberate around your brain pan. I love it. Anyone smarting from lost love and ready to get your broken heart mended should slip this little ditty on and let 'er rip at the top of your lungs. Sleeping relatives aside, this little exercise allows you to exorcise some old love demons. So go head and try it for yourself.

What a brilliant tune!,

This is a fantastically bitter new song from Clarkson. I saw the (brilliant and very imaginative) video on TV a week ago or so and was immediately captivated by the tune. I especially love the way she has all those different vocal lines going on through the chorus. Catchy, upbeat and biting. What a brilliant tune! I just had to have it.
That said, I think I can understand why some reviews have been harsh, why her established fans are not feeling the song and why it didn't burn up the charts. According to stuff I've read online, all her songs so far (or most of them at least) have been about the subject of break-ups or heartache and I guess that can get rather depressing after a while. I'm lucky in that I've never really paid any attention to the woman before now (or to any other AI winner for that matter) and so to me, this is totally fresh stuff. I only caught this video because I've started watching music television stations that serve more pop & rock-oriented stuff after becoming totally disenchanted with r&b and hip-hop music and videos. To me, this is a breath of fresh air. It's highly unlikely that I'll go on to buy the album or become a Kelly Clarkson fan, though one never knows, but this particular song I'm very excited about. I'm happy to have in my collection.

Same ole same ole,
This review is from: Never Again (Audio CD)
To be fair, Ive heard a couple other songs from My December and I was more impressed with those. But "Never Again" is nearly unlistenable. Her last huge hit "Since You Been Gone" and to a degree "Walk Away" were break up...Im over you...I dont need you songs. Now we get another angry break up song. Are we going to be subjected to this torture all over again every time Kelly has another break up? The chorus to Never Again comes across as whiney and screechy, and I swear, even after hearing the song several times, I cannot remember the melody to the verses. "Never Again" does not show any growth as a songwriter and its no wonder the single fell out of the top 10 so fast. Obviously Im not the only one with a bad opinion of this song. But to her credit, the song "Sober" which radio is now occasionally playing, though Im not sure if it has been officially released as a single, is a much better song. Lets hope that "Never Again" is just a minor blip on the cd.

One of the biggest pop-rock headscratchers of 2007...,

First three times I heard this, I was like, "It's OK. Think I like it; it's angry, bit angrier than the anger-lite Breakaway stuff before, guitar-driven, yet something was wrong; it wasn't very musical. Sure, the "ding, ding, ding's" in the background were very awesome, some tinkering WAS going on. But it wasn't very...connected, for lack of a better word.
But after 10 or so listens, it grew on me. Then I got the album and it was great. Now, I'd rate it at a solid 8.5/10, meaning it's good, but I also agree with others about the other tracks on the album: Most are just better. Never Again is like this, categorized: Judas < Chivas < Never Again < One Minute < How I Feel < Yeah < Irvine << Don't Waste Your Time < Can I Have A Kiss? < Be Still << Hole << Maybe < Sober Cover Art: B- Inside Art: ? (have the album, not the single) Songwriting: B Vocals: B Vocal Emotion: B- Production: B Length: A- 4.25 stars. Overall: B-
