If you're already familiar with the basic ideas in alternative health, I doubt you will find anything new here. Eat a clean diet, do exercise, get a good amount of sleep, take the right supplements etc. The author starts by relating his own health crash, and how he pulled himself out of it, so there's no doubt his heart is in the right place, but most of the book was...

I am a 10 year cancer survivor. I have had surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. None of it worked. For the past 8 years I have stayed alive on alternative therapy. As a result, have read over 100 books on health. I've been able to get bits and pieces of information from those books to enable me to stay alive these past 8 years. Francis's book has put all the bits and pieces together in one volume.

For the first time I have been able to understand the biochemistry of my illness and follow a path which has greatly diminished my illness and has brought me close to remission. The information on what to do is comprehensive and all in one place. More importantly, is the extensive information on what not to do and things to avoid.

I recommend this book to everyone, particularly those people with a chronic illness. I wish that I would have had this book 10 years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raymond Francis has captured a revolution in progress!, October 11, 2002
By
Mark Bryant (New Leaders Press) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
As a publisher of business books with over 300 authors published in the last ten years, when I read a review of a book, I always ask myself; "How can this book help me?" If the answer is, "it can help me make a change for the better"... I buy the book. That is why I can honestly say that after reading "Never Be Sick Again," this book will transform your life.
I make this statement with such confidence for a reason. Here's the story. For quite a few years, I did my own extensive research into health. I spent tens of thousands of dollars and gathered detailed information from over 100 different health practices. The information was very helpful, but what I found lacking was a central system or model to tie all of the health practices and diseases together. Raymond Francis has developed just such a model. With an easy-to-read writing style and a tremendous amount of research to support his principles, Raymond Francis, as a leader for change, has developed the Rosetta stone for good health.
If you read this book, you'll learn the right way to manage your health from an author who is a pioneer in the field. You will find out how disease really works, what the two main causes of disease are, and why it is critical to understand preventative measures in order to give your health a boost. Raymond Francis has caught a revolution in progress and laid it out in terms all of us can understand.
In some ways the title "Never Be Sick Again," doesn't do justice to the new approach the author has developed. Yes, the book does help you avoid becoming sick, but it is more than just a set of facts compiled from research. With this book, Raymond Francis has developed a systematic approach to understanding disease. And in ground breaking fashion, shows the reader how health involves far-reaching changes in our society. The author's new and innovative approach will change the way people think and act towards health and disease.
By reading this book, you'll gain a whole new view of how to handle your health. And while this revolutionary method for understanding disease and perfecting health is comprehensive, the method is anything but a quick fix. The information is about a new way of living healthy, and a way of thinking about disease, that can reshape your entire life. So if you are prepared to take the next step towards improved health... buy this book. It will be a book you keep on your mantle, near at hand, for the next decade.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Godsend, August 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
This is the best book I have ever read. For the last six years I have suffered from a serious inflammatory lung disease. I have been on many drugs and have seen many specialists, yet each year my problem grew worse. When a friend gave me this book, I had no idea how it would change my life. Only six months after putting its suggestions to work, I am now off of all drugs and feeling better than I have in six years. This book has been a godsend to me, it gave me back my life. Even if you have never bought a book in your life, buy this one. It could save your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, Fascinating, and Helpful, February 22, 2007
This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
I've been on strong asthma medications for a long time. I started getting every side effect they list, and being that one of the medications was black boxed in '05, I had to get off them. My blood pressure would drop as I stood up, and my resting heart rate was always going too fast. My severe allergies would trigger the asthma, but the medications would only close my lungs up more. As a kid every type of food would make me feel sick, and as a result.. I just never ate very much at all. Now... its still the same thing. Doctors found I have hypoglycemia and a gluten-intolerance. There were days I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed at all. I went to doctor after doctor looking for a cure and never found it. An endocrinologist even said that I have anxiety disorder and need to be treated with medication. A dietian didn't listen to me, and prescribed a diet that made me severely worse. I've had almost every medical test imaginable, and they could never conclude anything. I would go to bed at 6pm and wake up at 10am, and I could just never get enough sleep to feel better. I kept having nightmare after nightmare.

This book provides all the answers I've been searching for years to find. I took the concepts in this book and gave my body the nutrients I never gave it. I saw great improvement the next morning. I could take deep breaths without the medication... I didn't even sneeze during the middle of the night! I couldn't eat fruit without having an asthma attack because of it... now, I'm able to eat a serving of low-glycemic fruit everyday and be completely fine. My deteriorating health, I know now, can be completely turned around. I am only 22 years old, and now I know... I can live to be 120 and live the rest of my life without sickness. This book is a true blessing, and I'm extremely grateful to the writer!

This book is worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Winner -- Highly Recommended, May 6, 2003

This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
This is the best book I have read in a very long time. It is profound, easy to read, entertaining, and filled with practical information. It presents a systematic approach to health that is easy to understand and implement. Most importantly, it has been life changing. Never Be Sick Again has permanently altered the way I think about health. In just six weeks I lost 12 unwanted pounds just by implementing a few of its suggestions (and this is not a diet book). In addition, I feel more alert and have more energy. I can't think of another book that has had such an impact on my life, and I doubt if my doctor knows ten percent of what's in this book. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cutting Edge Theory, October 4, 2002
By
This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
The cutting edge theory at the heart of "Never Be Sick Again" is straightforward, optimistic, and empowering. This book addresses the element of choice involved in personal health and discusses many options we have to lead healthier lives. Dr. Francis takes the mystery out of cellular health and gives strong support to a growing idea that I believe describes the future of health care: health is not under the exclusive domain of hospitals and doctors-- it is a choice we can make for ourselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raymond Francis opens a new paradigm for health, September 28, 2002
By
"b_soule" (Fremont, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
Never Be Sick Again shatters all preconceptions about what health is and how we may attain it. Before I read this book, I thought that "health" was an ephemeral concept that was mostly in the hands of fate. Raymond showed me that this is not so in a very profound way. After reading this book I not only have a clear picture of what is at stake, but an understanding of how to make healthful choices every day.

The difference between this book and other diet, weight loss, or get-well books that I've read is that it fundamentally breaks new ground on what health is and what causes disease. I truly think that Raymond's new model for health will revolutionize the way we all think about health, and will knock the current medical establishment for a loop. There are only a few books that I've read that permanently alter my thinking on a subject, and this was one of them. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Masterpiece, November 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
This is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. A masterpiece of clarity, Never Be Sick Again changes completely the way we have all been taught to think about health and disease. The author redefines health and disease in a way that is so simple and clear that it gives readers the power to both prevent and reverse disease.

I know how powerful this book is because I suffered from asthma since I was a child. After implementing the simple suggestions on how to reverse disease, my asthma is gone. This is something no doctor ever did for me. For the first time, I now have a clear understanding of why physicians are unable to cure disease and what I must do to choose health. I am a biologist, and even I learned an entirely new way to think about health and disease. Since reading the book, I have been doing research on my own. My conclusion is that Never Be Sick Again is on the cutting-edge of medical science--at least 50 years ahead of most physicians. It should be required reading in all our schools, especially our medical schools.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent, Useful, Inspiring!, October 14, 2002
By
Pamela Strong (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
As a nutritionist, I've read quite a few self-help books on health, and this one is different. It goes to the root of the problem, asking the questions "what is disease?" "how do we become sick?" and "how do we prevent or recover from disease?" An MIT-educated scientist, the author brushes aside medical mumbo-jumbo to get down to the essentials. Inspired by people like the Hunzas, who often lived their entire lives without a single disease, he begins with the premise that it is humanly possible to "never be sick." What a revolutionary concept! He goes on to show how, despite the challenges of living in our modern world, we can create in our own lives the basic human preconditions for health.

Although written for the layperson, this author is obviously a very intelligent man and a scientist who thinks problems through in an independent and clear-minded way. The well-researched information he supplies and the model he presents for making choices on a day-to-day basis are extemely useful and empowering. He has a good sense of humor and an engaging writing style, and his stories about his own recovery and the recoveries of the people he's worked with using this model are truly inspiring.

I am recommending this book to my friends and colleagues and am giving a copy to each of my clients as I want them to have this important information.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of common sense advice and some more ..., July 3, 2003
By
Gabriel E. Borlean (Odense, Denmark - birthtown of fairytale-writer H.C. Andersen) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Never Be Sick Again: Health Is a Choice, Learn How to Choose It (Paperback)
The "revolutionary" theory presented is that disease is cause primarily by deficiency (of vital nutrients) and toxicity (of foreign or internally-produced elements). In the context of this book, Raymond Francis defines disease at the core as malfunctioning cells.

The best thing about this book is the paradigm change of how to view human disease (in general) and it's two main causes. The author makes sure he drills this in your head in the first four chapters. The rest of the chapters each focus on one of six "pathways" to eliminate (or minimize) disease. This is where the practical advice is found. The content of these practical chapters seemed to be scattered and subsections were not connected very well. Sometimes the information seemed to be even conflicting (on the surface) like one paragraph informing us that breastfeeding is the best way to feed babies, and then the next one telling us that even breast feeding is bad for the babies because of possible toxins passed on from mother's body. The Genetic Pathway chapter was a bit of disappointment (very short) and I feel like there were more research studies and ideas that he could have included in the Psychological Pathway chapter.

In general a lot of the advice in the book is plain & simple common sense: to live a healthy life and have a healthy body
* eat well (wholesome foods, preferably organic and not very processed),
* sleep well,
* have a positive/optimistic outlook on life,
* exercise regularly (which also helps reduce stress),
* and be an informed consumer about products one uses and consumes around the house (e.g. listed ingredients, cleaning agents and toxin sources).

The second best thing about this book is the variety of resources (books listed in the Reference section) that the author has digested and distilled on his own time and then disseminated across this book.

Reason why this book does not deserve five starts (IMHO):

1) The information in the book is presented and discussed as being Gospel and with a very heavy evangelical undertone (and no, this is not a religious book). Also this feeling is echoed by the title and subtitle ("NEVER be sick again, Health IS a CHOICE, learn how to CHOOSE IT").

2) Examples of people benefiting from suggested changes seem almost allegorical since they are only presented by a first name with no extra specifics for verification. The same goes for the medical research articles quoted (with the exception of one study where the month, title, and author are listed along with the journal name).

3) As a strict vegetarian I was disappointed to read that Raymond does not recommend the vegetarian or vegan diet without elaborating on his opinion (even though studies have shown both the benefits and pitfalls of a plant-based diet).

Overall: Check this book at your local library, take everything presented with a grain of salt (balanced approach, with moderation), and if you like it, then buy it.

THANK YOU for your VOTES (up or down)!
