3.0 out of 5 stars Expanded on positives from MOM....
Tommy Lee's Methods of Mayhem release was an inconsistent album as I have ever heard, ruined by a rap partner and guests galore. Never A Dull Moment took the rock foundations of that album and made it the focus of Tommy's solo release. The result is a surprising hard rock album that probably won't get any attention because he is seen by most as a musician from...

5.0 out of 5 stars Never A Dull Moment.....On this Album, November 16, 2002
This review is from: Never a Dull Moment (Audio CD)
When Tommy Lee left Motley Crue he was heavily criticized for his new musical adventures that he embarked on with Methods of Mayhem, though I liked the album not many did, after he was finished with the touring cycle of the album he went home and reevaluated his career and decided to disband MOM and put out a solo album, and here it is: Never A Dull Moment, not that i need to give the inspiration for the title. What this album does is take elements from Motley Crue and Methods of Mayhem and combine them, so the songs are more rock but there still is the techno/rap element to them. This album unlike the MOM cd also has some excellent ballads such as Why It Is, Ashamed (the new single), and Blue featuring Mike Einziger and Brandon Boyd of Incubus, these songs show that Tommy Lee can actually sing and write songs. The album opens with Afterglow which is a midtempo rock song, great vocals and music. Next song, Hold Me Down, was the first single off the album and actually recieved airplay before radio abandoned the album. There are also some really heavy moments on the album such as Sunday, Higher, and Body Architects, which sound amazing, that's definately what Tommy should be doing, making hard rock songs. The one low point of the album is his version of Fame by David Bowie, I honestly don't know what he was thinking with this one, there's actually not one redeeming quality about the song. Face to Face is another uptempo metal song, personally I think it's about Kid Rock but i don't know for sure. The last song on the album is People So Strange, one of my favorites, great rhythm to it, great vocals, very catchy. The album closes with Mr. S$#@y, which is just an answering machine message from a 'disgruntled' man...haha, but all in all this album is definately worth the money, Tommy really shines, weather it's on guitar, drums, his vocals, or songwriting, it is an all around strong album that i think is essential to any music fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, Better than I expected., May 24, 2002

This review is from: Never a Dull Moment (Audio CD)
When I heard Tommy Lee's new single "Hold Me Down" a few months ago I was eager for this CD to come out. I was dissapointed when I heard that this would be coming out on his solo album and not on a Methods of Mayhem album but I bought this CD a couple days ago and thought that it would be good. It met my expectations. He has great slow songs such as "Ashamed" which is one of the true highlights of the album. Another great slow song he has on here is "Blue" which is an great tribute to his father who passed away. Of course there's songs for the heavy metal fans which are great also. "Body Architects" is a great track which is meant to be performed live. One of the more amusing tracks is a remake of David Bowe's "Fame" which sounds a lot different from the original but I thought that Tommy Lee did a great job molding it into his style. Overall I give this CD 4 out of 5 stars because although this CD is really good some of the harder tracks get a little tiring to listen to after awhile. Also even though that this album was good I thought that his Methods of Mayhem album was better.

Although I am a huge fan of Tommy Lee, I wasn't expecting anything truly great when I first picked up this album. However after listening to it just once, I was completely and totally blown away. This is an awesome album. I would recommend it to anyone.

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Never a Dull Moment (Audio CD)
I have been a life-long Motley Crue fan, and so when I read that Tommy Lee released a solo album under his name, instead of Methods of Mayhem, it sparked my curiosity. I never really paid much attention to his MOM music, but I bought this album almost immediately after it's release. After the first listen, I was a little leary about it, but the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me, and it is now one of my favorite albums. Every single song on the album is a hit, and all-in-all, it is a wonderful rock and roll album, straight across the board. If you are considering buying it, don't buy it hoping for Motley Crue, because you will be disappointed. That was the mistake I made. But once you open up your mind a little, and actually listen to the music, and get into it, you will LOVE it. In the age of mp3's and downloading music for free, this CD is definitely worth your money. It's even more impressive that Tommy pretty much did everything on this album: vocals, drums, guitar, etc. Never-the-less, I went into this album as a Crue-head, and came out a Tommy Lee fan. It does not disappoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars America has gone completely deaf!, January 27, 2003

Why this album is not selling better is an absolute mystery to me. After graduating college with a Music Degree, the grunge movement immediately hit. Talent was replaced with anger. As long as you were ..., your record would sell, regardless if you could play a decent note.

Finally, we've done a 180, and we're starting to see popular rock music with talented writing and playing again. I was blown away when I first heard "Never a Dull Moment." Every track, although different both in style and composition, is a wonderfully constructed song, with incredible playing to top it off. (Think about it. It's Tommy Lee. He can afford the best players in the world.) Anyway, I sincerely hope everyone buys this CD. It's been too long since someone with simple, pure talent put something out, and this is definitely it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, melodic twist from ex-Crue drummer, June 7, 2002

I've been a fan of Motley Crue since 1980 when they first broke out on the scene and have loved everything they've ever done. This solo effort by Tommy Lee is definitely better than the solo Vince Neil albums. A solid mix of fast and heavy with melodic ballads. A definite crowd pleaser for all fans! This album is great. You won't be disappointed...if you think "Hold Me Down" is a great song, you haven't heard the rest of the album...with songs like "Blue", "Why Is It?", and "Ashamed", Tommy Lee has really proven that he can rock and slow it down at the same time. I recommend this effort to all! Rock on!

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise from Tommy Lee........., September 22, 2002

I bought this cd on a hunch after hearing and digging the first single "Hold Me Down". To my surprise, the rest of the record rocks as well! From the heavy opener "Afterglow" to the beautiful melodic harmonies of "Blue" this effort is well produced and surely worth picking up. Congrats Tommy, you proved everybody wrong.

This review is from: Never a Dull Moment (Audio CD)
I have been a Motley Crue fan for 20+ years, I am very skeptical of solo projects put out (by Motley members or most other band members), as many artists that are in fabulous bands don't cut it as solo artists but this album by Tommy Lee is outstanding. It is very, very hard, having more of a Hardcore of almost punk sound to it. I am so so impressed, I hope everyone will give this great album a listen!
