5.0 out of 5 stars Never Enough, March 8, 2009
This review is from: Never Enough: One Lawyer's True Story of How He Gambled His Career Away (Paperback)
I found "Never Enough" so touching and inspiring that I purchased copies and donated them to lending libraries at local AA, Al-anon, and GA clubs. Anyone who has had experience with addiction will relate, and will find hope and comfort in Michael Burke's candor, as he shares his story and the impact of his addictions on his family, his friends, his clients and his community. This is a book you will want to share.

Wow! I've read this book twice and each time I gained new insights into the life of a gambler. Lawyer Mike Burke's addiction left a wide trail of victims from family to clients and friends. Now he has shared his story in a way that offers hope and guidance for people suffering from this devastating disease, and I do believe it is just that. Burke's story is a compelling one, showing the gamut of events and emotions from compulsive gambling, to arrest and conviction, to recovery and service to others. As a parent, I was also touched by the perspective offered by his wife and daughters. Thank you, Michael Burke.

I am writing from the perspective as the mate of a gambling addict. It is a horrible experience to set back and realize what is taking place within the person that you have grown to love. They truly have no control over their actions. I would never have believed it all, unless I truly lived it for over two years.

I have met Michael at GA,he is truly a humble, gentle man. This book is truly an inspiration to many, compulsive gamblers and mates of the addicts. I realized that all I could do is set my boundaries, get help or I had to walk. Sad to say that is what I did. I still continue to love and pray for the man I love, but until he reaches out for help there is nothing more I can do. It has to be the addict themselves that says , NO more.
This is a great book , especially for those in this situation. Thank you MIchael for making this your life goal from now on, to reach out to those in need. The Lord is working in your life. Thank god for your wonderful family. Keep up the great work you are doing...through your family's pain goodness and good works are shining.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an amazing book, February 19, 2009
This review is from: Never Enough: One Lawyer's True Story of How He Gambled His Career Away (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book. It is an account of the journey of Michael Burke, and how his life is forever changed because of his pathological gambling. His story is gripping and inspiring. This book spoke to me in a very profound way because I too suffer from an alcohol and gambling addiction. My hope is that this review will inspire those who read it to read Michael's book. I hope to reach those who think they have a gambling problem. The truth is you are not alone, and help is available. Reading Michael's book was like reading the story of my life. Getting help and dealing with my addictions was the best thing I ever did, and I want to carry that message to those who suffer. In addition to being a great book, there is contact information in the book, and at his website [...], a site which I also highly recommend. Help is available, and my hope is that this review, and Michael's book, will lead you to that help.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book which explains how people turn addicts and how their life turns out at the end, May 7, 2011

I wasn't searching for this particular book or any addition related books in amazon. Encountered it by chance and got interested after reading the reviews. I received it yesterday by mail and read it all in a couple of hours.

Some good things about the book.
1. It is composed of only 100 pages, small and crisp.
2. It is a real life story.
3. Clearly explains how one becomes an addict and what they do to hide that addiction.

My observance about this book is that, though it is about gambling you can correlate many a things/situations to any sort of addiction. Gambling being one of the types. Addiction could be as widely known as from drugs, alcohol or gambling to as far as travel, food etc.

I feel the biggest take away from this book which will help anyone who is addicted to anything to get away from that addiction is a quote from the book

"The only solution is to take it one day at a time and always do the next right thing"

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply - a great book that was meant to be read and shared by many, May 4, 2010

I had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Burke tell his story and was given the opportunity to spend some time with him after his speaking engagement. This book is his own personal story, but is so common to those of us who suffer from addiction. Mr. Burke's story is captivating, it is emotional, it is humbling and it is courageous. This is a book you will want to read cover to cover. Thank you again Mr. Burke for sharing.

This book is excellent. I had the privilege of listening to Michael Burke share his story at a conference. I was also able to meet Mr. Burke and talk with him in person. He has so much information and he tells his story so well both in person and in this book. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn more about addiction, doubts how powerful addiction really is or anyone affected by addiction. The book captured my interest from the first pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful, March 30, 2009

Mr. Burke's very honest and devastating story of his gambling addiction hit home with me. Having lived this nightmare with my husband for many years, I can only wish it was available tohim before he passed away in 2006. This is a must read for anyone with a gambling addiction and for the friends and family around this person. Mr. Burke opened his heart and soul to help others and hopefully this book will do what he intended. His very courageous family are to be admired for their role in helping others too. God Bless them. Sincerely, J. of Illinois
