Want the Truth...,
By Becca (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For Never & Ever (Audio CD)
I've been listening to this band since the mid 90's when they were promoting themselves on the streets of Chicago in the rain, hail & SNOW! This is one of the only bands that SOLD OUT shows continuously in Chicago years before they were ever signed on basically word of mouth and self-promotion! They are not only one of the most "pretty" bands out there, but they have a raw talent that you just don't seem to find anymore!
All these bad reviews simply shock me...see for yourself what a great band they are - I'm sure you'll agree with me that they're worth every single penny! My recommendations are "Race the Dream", "Raining all the Time" & No one dreams ANYWAY" - off this album - but their earlier stuff "Welcome to Chicago MF", "Don't die wondering" & "Nerve Gas" are amazing too. You'll be mesmerized and hypnotized by their music! TRUTH be told they are AWESOME!

One Of The Most Underrated Groups Of The Moment,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For Never & Ever (Audio CD)
I gotta say, looking at the photo of the band on the back of the CD case, I didn't know what to think of Killhannah. They all dress with pants so tight, you can tell their religion and pretty much look like a second-tier emo act. Listen to the music, however, and such is not the case. Killhannah are one of very few original acts out there. You might remember the single "Kennedy" from back in 2003, but other than that, these guys haven't had much exposure. And what a shame that is. Killhannah may very well be the kick in the pants the rock world needs.
Taking a page from their fellow Chicago breathren and influences in Smashing Pumpkins, Killhannah combine a solid alternative backbone with dense electronics. A frontman who sings his lyrics a little high-pitched, but with plenty of conviction and plenty of pop-hooks. It's hard not to hear a lot of Pumpkins influence in their music, but make no mistake, they also are not even close to being a carbon copy. Despite being a mere eleven tracks long, "For Never & Ever" manages to lay all of the cards on the table, establishing a new sound all their own. "New Heart For X-Mas" "Racing The Dream" and "They Can't Save Us Now" are the real standouts, and songs you need to hear if you are looking into the group. Hopefully when they put out their next album, it will take Killhannah to the next level. I would love to see a band like this destroy the bland emo and retro scene in an instant. One of the true alternative bands left, one that can't be described in a word, confined to a genre. Believe all the good things you've heard about Killhannah. They are all true.

Welcome to Chicago .....,

This CD is the culmination of several years work for this band from Chicago, they've grown from Metro darlings into full fledged rock stars. This album is a mix of great beats and breathy vocals with rock and roll flair. They mix lyrics about love and lust and alienation with a sensibility that only Kill Hannah has. I truly recommend this album to anyone who likes modern rock music with 80's post modern glam influences. I've been a fan of this band for a long time and I'm very happy to see that with their first major label release that they didn't stray from the formula and yet still gained momentum.

Kill Hannah, Incredible New CD,
By Julia (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For Never & Ever (Audio CD)
Kill Hannah's major-label debut, For Never and Ever, is unlike anything else being played nowadays. New fans will love the poppy, upbeat songs, and most older fans would surely agree that the revamped songs are awesome. From their popular energetic single, "Kennedy," to slower, more romantic songs like "Raining All the Time," the album is wonderfully diverse. Every tune is powerful and touching, and there are no filler songs. Their sound is pop-rock with tinges of Cure and Bowie-influenced 80s glam. Kill Hannah overlaps cool synthesized noises with rocking guitars, creating their own signature sound. These guys are the best thing to come out of Chicago since The Smashing Pumpkins! Singer Mat Devine has a sexy, unique voice that feels every note he sings and carries the listener right along. "Race the Dream" and "Is Anyone Here Alive?" are two of my favorites. The songs seem like they would appeal most to teenagers and young adults. Put this CD on in your car when you're speeding along an empty road at 3 am with your friends and you'll know exactly what I mean. This is a totally awesome CD -- listening to it will make you feel alive!

Pretty Original In Today's Times,
By LeftManOut (TheCityThatNeverSleeps, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For Never & Ever (Audio CD)
Judging by the cover of this cd, one would be willing to guess that Kill Hannah is nothing more than a cookie-cutter emo/screamo/metalcore act, with very little substance. I mean look at the name. However don't let the name or the cover fool you; Kill Hannah is not your standard "scene" band. In fact they have little in common with any of the groups with which one might immediately associate them with. Actually they are probably one of the few band out there today still trying to pioneer a sound that is fresh and different. Though they've gone virtually unrecognized over the last three years since this album was released, I have a feeling all that's about to change. The time seems just right for Kill Hannah to flourish.
Opening up with the energetic "They Can't Save Us Now", you'll instantly get acquainted with what the guys have to offer. Mat Devine has a very unique way of delivering his vocals, sometimes sounding feminine and out of breathe, and at others rough and melodic. "For Never And Ever" has plenty of things going for it, that's for sure. The song writing is top-notch. Almost all the songs have an incredibly memorable chorus ("Kennedy" and "New Heart For Christmas" being the most recognizable). The subtle electronic elements that are sprinkled throughout the entire record add a nice sonic feeling to almost every song they are placed in. The guitars are extremely melodic, and their main focus seems to be creating a giant wall of sound around the listener, rather than bombarding one with technical ability (not to say the aren't talented though.) The drumming is great and on point as well, and combined with the bass playing of Greg Corner, the band is solid all around. The great thing about the record though is that no two songs are alike. Every single one has a different and unique feeling, right down to the way Mat sings them. Kill Hannah is able to pull off so many twists and turns that any listener should be able to appreciate how diverse they can get. Rockers like "From Now On" and "Race The Dream" show the up-tempo nature of the band, while somber pieces like "Raining All The Time" and "10 More Minutes With You" show off their ability to slow it down. Front to back not a single thing to complain about. Although they're not on the radar at the moment, I think Kill Hannah is about to break with their upcoming album "Until There's Nothing Left Of Us". Look at a band like 30 Seconds To Mars, who are incredibly talented and went virtually unnoticed with their first record. Now their doing extremely well. And with playing a similar style of electronic influenced alternative rock like Kill Hannah, I wouldn't be surprised if KH breaks out in August. "For Never And Ever" is a great listen for all fans of alternative and rock, and really has a lot of sleeper value. With the band about to release their newest cd soon, now is a great time to look into this offering. You won't be disappointed.

Spectacular,

I just began listening to Kill Hannah last July, and now I'm addicted. I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful this band is. This CD is rather indescribable, but I suppose it is at times reminiscent of Placebo. Generally their sound is completely unique, and Mat Devine's voice is unlike any I have ever heard. The tunes are not only unique, but catchy as well. I've had 'Boys and Girls' stuck in my head for days. Their songs have a wide range from up-beat and heavier rock to a lighter, gentler sound all their own.
I completely recommend this CD if you are looking for something new and wonderful. And if you end up loving this CD as much as I do, I also recommend American Jet Set, which is every bit as good as this one.

AMAZING!!! This band is a unique blend of goth and pop. Beautiful arrangements. Great hooks. I've literally listened to this cd almost every day for 6 months! "Kennedy" is their most well know song off this cd, but don't stop there. Every song front to back is great. Unlike most cd's you may buy, if you like one song off this one, you'll probably like them all. Other great one's include "They Can't Save Us Now", "10 More Min. w/You", "New Heart for Xmas", "Boys and Girls", "Unwanted", and my personal favorite, "Is Anyone Here Alive?". I've seen alot, ALOT of 5 star ratings on Amazon that were not deserved, but this one deserves 5+! They're also great live and a very friendly and personable band. I highly recommend them. I would definitely put this cd in my top 10 and I have over 1000 cds! They're coming up fast and they're label is the reason they're not well known. Put these guys on the radio and MTV/VH1/FUSE with a video or two, and WATCH OUT!!! They're a sure bet to be the biggest smash of the year, if not the decade!!!

true to form,
By A Customer
This review is from: For Never & Ever (Audio CD)
the thing i'm most pleased about with this album is how Kill Hannah has stayed true to form. i originally feared that a major label debut would end up over-polished. fortunately this album showcases the tight musicianship and raw edge this band has possessed since it's conception.

Kill Hannah's boys dazzle with cinematic beauty..,
By Crystal Duran (Joliet, IL.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For Never & Ever (Audio CD)
Kill Hannah's insanely anticipated CD has dropped andall of their fans have had more then enough time to delve into the passion-filled lyrics and hooks. This is Kill Hannah's first album released on a hardcore major record label. The album kicks off with a declarative roar of "They can't save us now". This is perhaps one of the best recorded versions of it. This version tries to capture the energy of it's live performance. "Kennedy" delivers the same kind of sexy fervor that it delivers on it's radio versions. "New Heart from Xmas" is contemplative and poetic but manages to still rock it's listeners out completely. This song is one of the most beautiful songs on the album. It combines melodic rhythm, with poetic sadness, and manages to invoke rock n roll. This album's version of "No one dreams anyway" seems a little too refined and sharpened. It lacks the certain cinematic and ambiant element that it's live performances have executed and that has been included in previous albums. Although that song is only my second favorite to "Agent Orange Skies", I don't think it's clarified and bufffed version on this album give justice to it's actual beauty. By and by, this album captures songs that have been released and performed throughout their short ten years of existence. Although Kill Hannah tries to encompus all of it's decade long stylings and elements onto the first record, the tracks seem a little clumsily placed and don't seem to relate to each other. The record seems a little like a greatest hits compiliation, but that's just because at KH's point in their career, they ALREADY have enough material to do so. This is KH's attempt to display the range in their music, and although KH's fans will appreciate it, I'm afraid it may disorient fans to be. Kill Hannah always delivers an undeniable sound of cruicfied meloncholy and art in their music and will continue to do so forever. Hopefully major record recognition won't manage to destroy the cinematic and organic feel of their music inspired by 80's new wave, personal angst and explosive live performances.

I saw mat and the boys way back when they were still confined to chicago. I've been following their musical progression ever since. All's i can say about this album is that it sounds like nothing on the market, of course that's what they've sounded like their whole careers! This is a great album for masses, something fresh, something hard, something soft, something more poppy. It's all there. The single kennedy is a wonderful romp, while songs like a new heart for x-mas is a nice slowdown. This album reeks of radio quality tracks with an indie flair. My suggestion if you like the smashing pumpkins, garbage, even janes addiction this album is for you. So just buy it already and make mat and the guys happy!
