turbonegro: the greatest band ever? that's what i think, and this fine record helps prove it. as an official turbojugend, this definitely is my favorite turbonegro record. but before you run out and buy it, here are some things you have to remember:

-if you are buying your first turbonegro record, i would not suggest this one. most songs don't really sound like their other recordings, so you may get an unrealistic view of turbo. this was a stage when they were really trying to figure out exactly who they were, and made a great album in the process. but once again, if you've heard the hype on turbo and want to buy one of their records, i would not suggest as a first. you will thank me later. (i suggest starting out on apocalypse dudes or ass cobra, depending on what your taste in music is now.)

-if you know turbo and have heard ass cobra, apocalypse dudes, or scandinavian leather, i warn you: it may take a while to get used to some of the songs. yes, some may sound like unreleased tracks from ass cobra, but some are slower, softer melodies with, dare i say, distinct vocalizing? ah yes, not just yelling "ach! ja!" as chorus lines. although, songs do have a "sailor man" vibe to them for you ass cobra fans out there. and yes, a few "harder" tracks could be passed off as definite punk rock songs (i.e. ass cobra; hot cars & spent contraceptives). but for fans of apocalypse dudes and scandiavian leather, remember, euroboy is not present on this record, so you can't expect incredible guitar solos all over the songs.

but, if you've heard a song you liked from this record already, go buy it! you'll like it more and more each time you listen to it. i know i did.

disclaimer: at some points on this review, it may seem like i hate all other turbo albums, which couldn't be further from the truth. there isn't a turbonegro album out there that i haven't fallen in love with at some point in time. i just couldn't go a week without this album by my side. turbojugend for life!

Not the best Turbonegro album. Not the most technically challenging. Lyrically good, but not great. So why a five star review? Because, after all of these faults, there's something about this album that draws you towards it. Not as widely known as there other releases, this still ranks as one of my favorites of them. I rank it 3rd, behind Apocalypse Dudes and Ass Cobra. However, I would not reccomend Ass Cobra to the average person. This is a better place to start. "Suburban Prince's Death Song" just might be the best Turbonegro song of all time, and representative of the album. Heavy, yet melodic. Definitely one of the most overlooked albums of their career.
