5.0 out of 5 stars Do you like Huey Lewis and the news? Then you'll like Rick Astley!
His early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Whenever You Need Somebody came out in '87, I think he really came into his own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. 3.0 out of 5 stars worthy destination for Rickrolling
I got Rickrolled (just Wikipedia it) and the sincerely cheesy music video reminded me what a fun song this is. It's got that mechanical yet enthusiastic Stock Aitken Waterman production, and Rick Astley has a nice set of pipes. 80s forevar!

His 1991 "Cry for Help" is a sweeter, better song.

The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Rick has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

In '87, Rick released this, his most accomplished single. I think his undisputed masterpiece is "Never Gonna Give You Up", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of monogamy, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the man himself.
