Never Never is a perfect album with all great songs. The other is a drag along with some good covers. The reason to buy this is Never Never Never, whose songs reveal Shirley's many facets and depth.l

This review is from: Never Never Never/Good Bad But Beautiful (Audio CD)
Shirley Bassey possesses one of the greatest voices over the past fifty years and this incredible 2-fer collection contains two of her very finest..."Never, Never, Never" is soulful and passionate and kicks off two hours of the finest singing one could ask for and this is a The Art Of Singing as good as it gets! Standouts abound and "Somehow" is a fiery passionate vocal at a level of brilliance that only Shirley could achieve and is a textbook example of how deep emotionally a singer can go into a song and Shirley hits the vocal heights in this great song with power that is rarely achieved in popular singing...familiar songs are given definitive readings and the finale of "Never, Never, Never" takes the breath away making the deeply moving "Make The World A Little Younger" and this completely magnificent collection a Desert Island must!
"Good, Bad But Beautiful" is the second awesome collection in this must have collection of tremendous vocals and engrossing performances and "Emotion" is the gripping opener that leads in to the most deeply emotive and beautifully sung "Send In The Clowns" one could ask for. The same level of brilliance is throughout the second long lost lp masterpiece making this collection a keeper & must-have for anyone who enjoys a great singer...Shirley Bassey has never been finer and this collection is a Vocal Masterpiece and again the ultimate Desert Island fantasy...Bravo Shirley!!!!!!!

With Shirley Bassey, it is difficult to select any one album or song as a "best" selection. This two disc album has some of her finest selections and will please anyone who likes easy listening music and appreciates a true vocal artist, without equal. Her rendition of "Never, Never, Never" was what attracted me to this album initially, as it seems to be the original recording and not the later ones such as with the London Symphony Orchestra. There is a sprinkling of old standards as well as the usual "never heard before" selections. All extremely worth listening to.
The standouts? - "Never, Never, Never," "Someone Who Cares," "Make The World a Little Younger," and "All in Love is Fair." The ONE selection to listen to over and over? - The one that seems to have been written just for Dame Bassey? "Jesse." Soulful and plaintive. This one selection was worth the price of the albums.
