5.0 out of 5 stars Dee Snider's 'Desperado' finally sees the light of day., February 14, 2001
This review is from: Never Let the Bastards Wear You Down (Audio CD)
Dee Snider recorded his best album several years ago. Unfortunately, the record company went under and the album was never released. Until now. This disc is a compilation of unused Twisted Sister songs along with many of the tracks that should have been released under the Desperado moniker. Snider's voice is as powerful as ever and his band is incredibly tight. One listen through and you'll wonder why another record company didn'y release this years ago. Check out the opener, "Hard Core", a tribute to Lemmy. Also take a listen to Dee's cover of "The Wanderer". You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old school is back..., August 22, 2000
This review is from: Never Let the Bastards Wear You Down (Audio CD)
The new solo CD from former Twisted Sister frontman is a true throwback to the old school. In this age with all the rap-metal, punk-pop, and industrial metal sounds out there, its downright refreshing to hear an artist staying true to his sound. This album reminds me of Twisted's Stay Hungry album, but a bit heavier in places. The opening track "Hardcore" is a scorching tribute to Lemmy from Motorhead, one of the best tracks on the album. I would have preferred another original track as opposed to Dee's cover of the "Wanderer", but he actually pulls it off. The hooks and riffs are memorable, and transport you back to a simpler time when metal was metal, and not diluted like it is today. I would have preferred a couple more fast songs however, as most of the album is mid-tempo. Still, for fans of Dee and Twisted Sister, this is recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not You, Not Nobody Can Keep Snider Down!!!, June 20, 2007
This review is from: Never Let the Bastards Wear You Down (Audio CD)
That just seems to be the way to say it, bad grammar and all. Dee Snider has compiled a beautiful cd, here. It's got all the NY back-alley, in-your-face, kicking-your-jewels songs like the first three songs that rock the listener into submission: "Hard Core" (it is); "Call My Name" (tough tune in the Snider indicative voice!), and "Our Voice Will Be Heard" (by that point, all you can say is, "Wow, gimme a brew & a cigarette"). "Isn't It Time" and "Cry You a Rainbow" are true Snider-themed ballads in the vein of "Suzette's Song" but with a much sleeker, up-to-date sound. My personal favorite: the NY hip-swingin', look-at-that-gal swagger found in "Sometimes You Win" (quite a lesson there!). "Ride Through The Storm" starts with the inverted, philosophical tone of "King of the Fools" but slides up into an up-beat rocker. This cd is a sure-bet for Twisted Sister fans who have been trying to recapture what might have been after their split-up and/or the fans who have followed Dee's gutsy live-or-die rock & roll attitude that's kept him in the game all these years. Nobody beats Dee. Buy this cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars What Twisted Sister could have been..., February 22, 2010

These songs have a different flavor than Twisted Sister ever had. For once, Dee had a songwriting partner.

They aren't necessarily better...just different. While Widowmaker had a bluesy sound to its first album, this album had a pseudo-cowboy sound. I loved it.

And for the early 90s, the style was an excellent evolution over conventional metal and had it gotten airtime, would have stood out from the grunge and dying metal sounds of the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dee is just a plain bad SMF, March 5, 2009
This review is from: Never Let the Bastards Wear You Down (Audio CD)
I have always been a Twisted Sister fan from when they first came out and I had never heard of Dee's CD until tonight and missed out out on all these years. Dee Snider has one of the most rockin' voices of all metal times and this is just a plain rockin' CD! Just get it, crank your stero up to 10 and rock out!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Twistede Sister Leftovers, October 20, 2007
This review is from: Never Let the Bastards Wear You Down (Audio CD)
This CD is a collection of leftovers from Twisted Sister leader Dee Snider with a new band. I got this CD for Christian metal which Dee is dead on- they've earned the right to do whatever they want. This decade metal went grass roots. Highlights are Hardcore, Desperado and The Wanderer. Credit Dee for at least sticking to his guns on this ill fated CD. Twisted forever...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Anthems Never Die, November 22, 2005

If you want a piece of two albums by Twisted Sister this is the one to get. This CD full of new material makes me raise my fist. It reminds me of where come out and play and stay hungry left off. This should have been the album that was released instead of love is for suckers. Although love is for suckers is a great album, this one should have been the next release. I listen to this periodically, as well as on my Ipod. I recommend you getting this one for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best voices in heavy metal is heard., October 25, 2001

Of all the 80's heavy metal, I think Dee Snider stood out as one of the best. This album covers tunes there were cut from the Twisted Sister days and when Dee was writing for his Desperado project. Though the Desperado album has been around in limited release in Europe and other black markets. This is the best chance you'll have to enjoy Dee's words put to music. You'll want to grow your hair out and head bang and sing along with the power ballads. My only regret about this CD is that "Ride Through The Storm" is a pale comparison to the one on the "Desperado" version I have heard.

This is the first CD with Dee Snider I've bought since I completed my Twisted Sister collection a while back. He's still got a great voice, and there are some excellent rockin' songs here, but also 2 or three weak ones. Still worth picking up though.
