Book Description

June 8, 1998
SHE THINKS SHE KNOWS ABOUT LOVE. HE VOWS TO TEACH HER ABOUT DESIRE.

After six years at a Philadelphia finishing school, former tomboy Emma Malloy is coming home to Whisper Valley, Montana, as a sophisticated lady. Little does she know that the decades-old feud between the Malloys and the Garrettsons has escalated into a full-scale range war. Nor does she expect that her archenemy, Tucker Garrettson, whose stolen kiss she still can’t forget, has become a rugged, handsomer-than-sin cowboy who wants to hang her father and take her prisoner—in his arms.

She is proud, beautiful, and bossy. And even though Emma is a Malloy, Tucker wants her badly. Here they are, caught in a blood feud, and all he wants to do is take her once and get her out of his mind. No man can outgun him, but can this infuriating beauty make him surrender his freedom and believe in love?

Editorial Reviews

Review

Emma Malloy and Tucker Garrettson have been enemies since childhood because of their fathers' feud, yet both of them remember when he kissed Emma when she was almost fourteen. Years later, and two days before Emma arrives home from Philadelphia, the feud escalates with the murder of Tucker's brother, and the prime suspect is Emma's father. The sheriff has one piece of evidence that implicates Win Malloy but he doesn't arrest him - yet. And now that she's home, will Tucker remain her enemy? A couple of frightening incidences occur where Tucker and Emma are there for each other. They share one more kiss and now they know there is something between them, though they try to deny it. One day Tucker is being brutally beaten by her father's men and Emma saves his life. A storm forces them to take shelter overnight in a shack where they make love in order to settle what's between them, only it strengthens their feelings and confuses Emma. How can she love her enemy? A range war starts between the Garrettsons and the Malloys and another piece of evidence is given to the sheriff so he's forced to arrest Win Malloy. Emma seeks the person who supplied the evidence only to discover the real murderer and the motive. Even a dying man's confession doesn't save Emma, but will Tucker, who just learned the truth about his brother's death, be able to save the life of the woman he loves? This book is a nice romance that fans of Jill Gregory will surely enjoy. The romance itself is believable and well scripted, but the plot was a let down for me. Ms. Gregory introduced a wonderfully evil character named Slade who seemed to have his own ideas and plans for Emma and her ranch, so when nothing developed I was disappointed because it felt like a loose end. Fans of Jill Gregory will surely enjoy her new romance, Never Love a Cowboy! Fully developed characters make this romance a good read! Gloria Miller -- Copyright © 050198 Literary Times, Inc. 4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Unique Read, March 19, 2005
This review is from: Never Love a Cowboy (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow, this was only my second romance novel. My first was Moonlight Obsession by the same author. This one was very true to the old western time period, and was told so good I had a flawless movie running through my mind as my eyes clung to every word! There is someone everybody can relate to in this book, and its not the classic sappy kind with the drawn half-naked people groping eachother on the cover! Jill mixed in murder with pleasure, scandals and old fashioned family pride. Very much like the wild west version of Romeo and Juliet, except with a smarter, fistier Juliet in the lead! I'd recommend this book to anyone, I really enjoyed reading it, and that is saying a lot because I usually can't sit long enough to finish a book. I know you'll love it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad..., May 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Never Love a Cowboy (Mass Market Paperback)
This book started out VERY formula (i.e. hero and heroine really hate each other). In fact, if I read one more "Damn you, Garretson!" "Damn you Malloy!" I was going to slap the both of them upside the head! But then the story got better...much better. The characters started becoming more 3 dimensional and had some good sides, not just bad. And Emma and Tucker's physical attraction to each other! Wowee! Like magnets - the two of them. The whodunit mystery was very well done, too. I thought I had the villain figured out from the beginning but I was wrong! So all in all - worth reading. Good, likable characters (once you got through that opening section) and a pretty fast enjoyable read. P.S. A small aside: the inside cover art of Emma and Tucker was dead-on accurate. Loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a WONDERFUL story!, September 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Never Love a Cowboy (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the first book I have read from Jill Gregory. Once I started I found that I just couldn't put it down! The loyalty and love for family that both Emma and Tucker showed was great! You fall in love with both Emma and Tucker, and just when you think everything is going to be okay, there is deception and betrayal. You find yourself hoping and praying they will see the truth and find their way to each other where they belong! It is a Great book! DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!!!
