More About the Author

By profession, I'm a technical writer, computer geek, and ex-interior designer. I'm good at two out of three of these things. I had the sense to quit the one I sucked at.

To deal with my mid-life crisis, I also write adventure novels featuring a middle-aged female protagonist, Aydan Kelly. And I kickbox.

This seemed more productive than indulging in more typical mid-life crisis activities like getting a divorce, buying a Harley Crossbones, and cruising across the country picking up men in sleazy bars. Especially since it's winter most of the months of the year here.

It's much more comfortable to sit at my computer. And heck, Harleys are expensive. Come to think of it, so are beer and gasoline.

Oh, and I still love my husband. There's that. I'll stick with the writing.

Diane Henders

P.S. If you want to know the truth about why Aydan Kelly looks like me, visit my website at http://www.dianehenders.com, and click on the FAQ link.

Ayden, a 40 something bookkeeper and widow, stumbles into a top secret government research project. Not a popular action in the eye of the oversight agency. A loyal women of integrity, Ayden agrees to help investigate why she was able to access the program without all the passwords and secret stuff that these projects always require. While keeping a close eye on her in case she is a spy for the evil entity, Fuzzy Bunny, yes, FB, the team assigned to her quickly come to trust her and respect her; in spite of her assertions that she is just a civilian bookkeeper, with her quick thinking and unusual skills they suspect that she is a really top secret agent for the Canadian Government. The top dogs on the other hand, do not so easily accept her innocence.

I look for humor in most books and the humor in Never Say Spy is in the way these really strong characters, especially Ayden, face the what life brings them. I was so hoping that this was the beginning of a series and it looks like it is. To whoever recommended Never Say Spy, thanks. I am now a Diane Henders fan!

Some sex and innuendo, some violence but not excessive.

Can't wait for more!

I'm a guy and I like sexy stories as much as the next guy, but this one would be 50 pages long if she left out all the reference to heroine lusting after hulk. I will give her credit for the most descriptive sex scene without any porn I've ever read. It takes place in Canada, so maybe with the snow, there's less to do. Ahem.
Anyway, when she isn't checking out guy's butts, she's involved in a story that I had to scratch my head over.
It seems there's this black ops program where people's thoughts are translated into reality. She has the ability to jump back and forth between reality and fantasy, and the black ops jack booted thugs can't figure out how she does it. They think she's a spy, and she thinks she's a bookkeeper. They're not letting her go until she proves she knows nothing.
I was incredulous as to the plot, but it was a fun read anyway. Ladies, tone down the sex. Everybody's not a hunk.

The description led me to believe it was possibly a somewhat believable mystery with a probably unbelievable female heroine. It started OK but then got into some crazy dream sequence that went on ad nauseam. When I realized it really was not as described but was more science fiction than mystery I was discouraged. I normally read books start to finish no matter how bad but I had to quit this one. Mercifully the Kindle edition is free because that is all it is worth.

When I first started the book, I was a little startled at the style - most books give you an info-dump right from the get-go, so you know who the main characters are without waiting too long. Not so with this one. The author slowly doled out the information, teasing me along and making me want more. And want more I did! I fell in love with the the book and the characters. I wanted to know more about them, wanted to watch them change and grow. The potential was there right from the beginning and it was delivered on, in spades. Once I finished book one, I went and got the other four out in the series. Excellent writing, phenomenal characterization, slightly "out there" situations that actually FEEL real.

I actually liked the premise of the book (sortof sci-fi) and it was fast-paced. But I didn't like Ayden Kelly's character - too manly, cussed like a sailor (and she was the one doing most of the cussing throughout the book - almost every page), talked sex like she was in the boy's locker room. (Is that how women are portrayed in Canada?) I did like that she could take care of herself against the bad guys. Never said why her head always hurt so badly coming out of the virtual reality while nobody else's did. Hated the porn and sex scenes. All-in-all won't be getting any more of the Never Say Spy series unless the author takes out ALL the cuss words.

Too many facts left out. I didn't realize it was science fiction. I am not a fan of that genre.

Not bad - a computer age sci-fi/mystery plot, but overall it worked. Fairly lengthy for a first eBook (762 pages), but at least the pages were truly one page long. The main character is interesting and likable, and the plot line really picks up roughly 200 pages in.

The series definitely has potential. I hope that the almost-now ubiquitous lust interest/reluctant love interest/too-noble-to-admit-interest-of-some-kind/lovey dovey stuff never gains primacy over the action because the book world does not need another romance series parading as sci-fi/action/mystery etc... - just sayin'!

Is the main character almost 50 or almost 15?? It's hard to believe this is a middle aged woman, with no super powers, or training. Then at the end the author is like "ppl ask if the main character is me?" GIRL PLEASE. Get a life. This book is so stupid. I kept waiting for the part where the author explained something, ANYTHING!!! Halfway through the book I wanted to quit reading but forced myself to finish. I should have listened to my first mind. I am going to go read a dictionary or something to try and replace the brain cells I lost on this book.
