About the Author

Since graduating from Old Dominion University with a B.S. in Health Sciences and a minor in Management, Jennifer Jaynes has made her living as a content manager, webmaster, news publisher, editor and copywriter.

In '04, Jennifer founded WritersBreak.com, which became widely recognized in the writing world and went on to be named a 'best website for writers' by "Writer's Digest" magazine.

After moving from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles in '05, Jennifer quickly traded in her conservative business suits for jeans and t-shirts and added screenwriting and freelance writing to her repertoire.

In 2010, she gave birth to two beautiful boys, Christopher & Ryan. Christopher has a congenital heart condition called hypoplastic left-heart syndrome, a CHD that she plans to write about in the near future.

In 2011, she published NEVER SMILE AT STRANGERS, which quickly rose through Amazon's ranks and has made several bestsellers lists. Its sequel, UGLY YOUNG THING, will be published in March 2014.

I finished reading this book at 2 AM on a Tuesday night, because there was no way to pull myself out of the story without finishing it. Fans of mystery novels and tension-filled psychological thrillers will genuinely enjoy reading "Never Smile at Strangers." Minar-Jaynes has combined everything I loved about the old "Fear Street" novels with everything truly scary that keeps me awake at night now. There is something chilling about the darker side of humanity, and Minar-Jaynes does an excellent job of reminding the reader of exactly why parents tell their children not to talk to strangers. The characters' fear is honest, and their pain and confusion can be felt in the writing. Furthermore, she has tapped into what makes "mystery" novels so compelling when they're done right- the suspense in this book is incredible, and the ending was like the explosive final scene of a movie that no one can stop talking about. I give major kudos to Mrs. Minar-Jaynes for writing a book that deserves front window-status in any bookstore.

This book was just what I needed! Jennifer has developed a great novel that brings the small town of Grand Trespass alive!

I absolutely loved how the author developed each of the characters. Especially when it comes to the killer! Rarely does the reader get to spend so much time in the mind of the antagonist and I absolutely loved it!

If you are looking for a good mystery/ thriller then this is the book for you. This book was very hard to put down and now that I have finished it, I wish that I had more to read by this author!

This book is a hard one for me to rate because on one hand I felt like it was for young adults but on the other hand the subject & story was pretty heavy.

WARNING: If you do not like sexual content and gross murder stuff you should NOT get this book. There is also swearing for those people who do not like it.

The story was a very good one but you do have to know in advance that it is heavy on the sexual content (think incest). The characters are interesting but a lot of the stuff going on was maybe for teenagers (however, I would not want my teen to read this book) because it is mainly about young adults (drinking, sex, smoking, etc.) and what happens in the life of a teen whose best friend goes missing. She is having a lot of problems at home so this adds more problems.

I though the characters were well fleshed out and I do think that what was going on with the teens felt very realistic. They seemed like normal teens (no sugar coated gorgeous perfect teens here) and their lives & problems were not sugar coated.

All in all, a good mystery with characters/situations that felt real (even though we do not want to think this goes on in our own towns/lives). I thought the story moved along fairly quickly and I would definitely read any other books by this author.

I appreciated the fact that the author kept you guessing until the end, but with so many characters it made the misdirection easier. That being said, the ending wasn't a real surprise. It was a bit neat and 6 weeks after the final showdown there was a too much "happily ever after..." for such violence.

There was some depth to a few of the characters, but I was expecting more from the detective/police side. The former football playing detective has less then a suppporting role which I found disappoiting. There wasn't much detecting going on, just a lot of speculation by the amateurs. It was interesting having the killers perspective coming through at times.

I almost stopped reading because of all of the sex, vulgarity and darkness. But I had to see what happened so I trudged through it. I must say, I enjoyed the ending and that the killer wasn't who I thought it was. I am glad that there was a happily ever after ending. A book filled with so much darkness needed it!

I can't believe how quickly I read this book. The story was really compelling which is why I couldn't put it down. The story didn't seem forced, like many suspense and mystery novels do. It flowed well and was evenly paced.

I also loved the writing. I could picture everything in the book. The people, the houses, the locations. I've never been to Louisiana, but I could truly picture it all. The characters were well-developed and consistent. Often I find that to be a common downfall in books I read, but these characters (most notably Haley, Erica, and Mac) were really well done.

The only downside is that I'm bummed because I read the book so quickly! I hope the author comes out with another book soon.

I started reading this book and I must say it started off with the potential to be a great book. There were too many irrelevant chapters in the book that could have been cut out. I started getting bored around ch 50. If some of the ch were cut out and everyone wasn't so gloomy all the time this would have been a good book. I will try something else from this author, because I can tell that she has potential to be a great writer.

Call me unenlightened, but the mere thought of a mother who tortures, molests, and ruins her children leaves me feeling sick. I'm sorry that so many people are fascinated by the twisted and perverse behaviors such evil creates in children. I wish I had never stumbled across this backwoods story of dysfunction and sickness. I wish I had read a single, honest review about this book's content and I would have avoided it entirely. I know such things exist in the world, but they don't have to pollute my mind as well. Recall the tragedy of the Green River Serial Killer and you'll have no need to read this book.
