This review is from: The Edge of Never; A True Story of Skiing's Big Mountain Tribe (DVD)
I just watched this film on cable and want to share it with all of my ski-loving friends. This is a true story of the brotherhood of Big Mountain skiing and the circle of support that these skiers offer Kye Peterson is genuine and heartfelt. An amazing story, one that is beautifully told by creator Bill Kerig along with this tremendous cast.
So glad that I came across this film and I wish that there were more films like it. Kudos to all involved in the making of this touching and exciting documentary.

Really intense story, great skiing, amazing scenery. The cinematography is really beautiful and the story told is heart warming and a good moral example of reaching for your dreams.

An amazing film of fatherhood and 'brotherhood' with men who love and live totally alive because they live on the Edge of Never. One can not watch this film in my opinion without appreciation for its relationships and Kye.
why oh why is it 'discontinued'?

One exception - otherwise great film,
This review is from: The Edge of Never; A True Story of Skiing's Big Mountain Tribe (DVD)
Only problem I had with this entire story is the attitude (expressed and implied) by some that if you die doing what you love - at least you die "with a smile on your face". As one who had the very near death experience I assure that ANY non-peaceful death is filled with only terror and one does not die "smiling". An influence in the story to think only of what "I" enjoy (especially if one has responsibilities of a family) is an poor message influencing an audience. The adventurous woman skier made the most sensible comment regarding danger: "I don't want to die on the mountain. (period)". That did not prevent her from being extremely courageous, but at least she approached the real danger with maturity & understanding. Otherwise a really great film !!!!!

This is an enthralling film that transcends the genre of ski movies. While thrilling the viewer with big mountains and impressive skiing, this documentary tells the gripping and true tale of a young son who tries to fill the shoes of a father he never knew by skiing the route that killed him. The film's larger story, however, is an exploration of the camaraderie of big mountain skiers who share a dangerous sport that regularly takes their best friends, fathers, sons, and husbands. Alternately sad and uplifting, this is a film not just for the adrenaline junkie, but for the entire family.
UPDATE on 12-Jan-11: I was contacted by the film's director, Bill Kerig. He told me that this seller is not authorized to sell the movie (Bill is trying to work with Amazon to change the distributorship). For now, the best way to support the creators is to purchase through EdgeOfNever dot com.

The Edge of Never is not your typical ski movie. I first had the opportunity to meet the director and see it on the big screen. Unlike the classic ski films, this film is more about the story, and how a young boy grows up in the shadows of his father, and coming to terms with the mountain where his father last skied.
As a skier, and father of two boys, the story really hits home.

I am not a skier and I don't know any. I saw this on cable 3 times and have decided it's time to add it to my DVD collection. It was amazing to watch this and to see how everyone looks out for each other. I liked the part when Kye couldn't tighten the cap on his Fathers ashes. Nice bit of humor at a delicate time.
