Editorial Reviews

Often referred to as one of the American top Rock vocalists, Jimi Jamison has been the singer with Target, Cobra and finally Survivor who rejoined in late 2011 - for more than a decade, apart from being an accomplished solo artist on his own.

Jimi performed back up vocals on recordings by ZZ Top, Joe Walsh and numerous other recording artists. Billy Gibbons refers to Jimi as the fourth member of ZZ Top and Casey Kasem, on his nationally syndicated radio show American Top 40, referred to Jimi Jamison as The Voice . Among Jamison s best known performances are "Burning Heart", from the Rocky IV movie which hit #2 on the Billboard Charts, "High On You" (#8), and "The Search Is Over" (#4).

His solo career started in 1991 with the release of When Love Comes Down followed in 1999 by Empires , the album which included the theme, "I'm Always Here" for Baywatch. In 2008 he teamed up with ex Survivor bandmate, Jim Peterik who wrote and produced for him the acclaimed album Crossroads Moment . On the heels of this superb release, Jimi toured Europe a few times and culminated with an appearance at the popular Firefest in the UK in 2011.

In the meanwhile Jamison started to work together with Swedish songwriter and producer Erik Mårtensson (W.E.T., Eclipse etc), who had met virtually while working on the successful Kimball Jamison duet album to which Mårtensson had contributed with some songwriting. They started laying down the foundations for a new solo album backed immediately by the enthusiasm of Frontiers Records President, Serafino Perugino.

The release took a good part of 2011 and 2012 to be completed, but the final results shine! This is truly a monumental Melodic Rock album, where a stunning contemporary Melodic Rock songwriting meets Jamison s stunning vocal abilities and a massive production. This album rocks really hard at times; that s probably the heaviest Jamison has ever been involved with since the times of Cobra. Still the melodies are going to haunt you and stay in your mind for a long time. Get ready for a monster of an album and a true Melodic Rock masterpiece!

The production is very good.

If you love your rock with uplifting melodies, soaring vocals, driving guitars and more more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box, then this is definitely for you!

This album is a gem from beginning to end. Almost all of the songs encourage listeners to try throughout their lives to continue to follow their dreams, something that Jamison at age 61 has continued to do and has reached a high point in his career with this album. Nor does the album lack a social consciousness as evidenced in "Street Survivors." I particularly love "Walk On (Wildest Dreams"). It's a great song to sing at the top of your lungs while driving alone in the car. In "Calling the Game" I think Jimi may be telling his Survivor bandmate Sullivan that he doesn't need Survivor's permission to follow his own star as shown by his work with Kimball and his "History" CD with Fred Zahl. In addition to the vocals I love the sounds of the background instruments, which I usually don't pay attention to. As a Survivor fan from the 80s this album meets AOR requirements to a T. But I think the younger generations should also appreciate it. I recommend it for those of us in our 60s as well as those in their younger years. If I have any complaint of the CD, it is that in "The Air That I Breathe"...on my equipment...the word "you" often sounds like "chu." I don't know why.

JIMI HAS DONE IT ONCE AGAIN BUT THIS TIME BETTER THAN EVER. I'VE BEEN A FAN SINCE SURVIVOR DAYS, AND EVEN LISTENED TO HIS EARLIER COBRA AND TARGET WORK. HE HAS PUT OUT SEVERAL OTHER CDS LATELY AND ALL HAVE BEEN TERRIFIC AS JIMI IS JUST SUCH AN AMAZING TALENT AND THOUGH I LOVE EVERYTHING HE DOES I JUST CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO THIS CD. THE MUSIC IS GREAT-SEARING GUITAR WORK, POUNDING DRUMS-BUT ABOVE IT ALL THAT SOARING PERFECT VOICE. HE PUTS HIS HEART AND SOUL INTO EVERY SONG. I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO HIM FOR 30 YEARS AND HE JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. FOR JAMISON FANS IT IS A MUST HAVE. FOR PEOPLE UNFAMILIAR WITH HIS WORK IF YOU WANT GOOD OLD FASHIONED ROCK & ROLL(WITH A SLIGHTLY HARDER EDGE ON SOME TUNES) GIVE IT A LISTEN. I PROMISE YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!

I've always admired Jimi Jamison's vocal ability which is right up there with the vocal powerhouses like Lou Gramm, Steve Perry, and other greats. To rock out solid and strong at this age is just so...I've got the word...."refreshing." Please aspiring singers: Listen and learn from singers like this!

The songs are great, filled with so much passion, emotion and wisdom. Loved it.

When Jimi Jamison replaced Dave Bickler in Survivor all those years ago I was concerned for the future of the band. Premonition , Eye and Caught were excellent examples of how to make a rock album: great lyrics, catchy riffs and a heavy back-beat. Then the singer is gone, replaced by somebody I'd never heard of. I needn't have worried. Once I heard the first line of I Can't Hold Back I knew the band would be okay. Pushing thirty years later Jamison still has one of the best voices in rock and in Erik Martensson he has found somebody outside the Survivor clique to harness that voice. As song-writer, producer and guitarist Martensson has captured the esscence of Jimi Jamison's talents. Never Too Late is to my ear almost a sequel to Too Hot to Sleep and if one didn't read the liner notes you would swear Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan were all over this. I won't rate each song individually. Just do yourself a favour especially if, like me, you were/are a Survivor fan and buy this. It fits into the collection very nicely.

Jimi never ceases to amaze me as well as his Fans. Whether it's in the studio or live. From his early days with the legendary Rock band Survivor, to his hand penned theme song for the syndicated TV show Bay Watch, which he also was the voice/singer. Also songs in movies for the likes of Sylvester stallone to God only knows what else, Jimi consistantly produces when it comes to songwriting combined with one of the worlds most distinct voices known today. I applaud Jimi and would hope he continues to entertain all of us for many more years. From the sound of this latest album, I truely believe he will. My hats off, once again, to Brother Jimi Jamison & Family. Thank you. Respectfully submitted, "Chuck" Charles E. Compton Sr.
