Book Description

April 1, 1995
This book could well be the battly cry of the baby boomer generation today. In his entertaining and motivating book, author Bob Basso, dubbed America's Number One Fun Motivator by People Weekly, takes the reader along on the wild, wacky, adventure of a middle-age dropout halfway up a tree in the South Pacific. A healing and hilarious journey into modern maturity, this book offers a lighthearted approach to getting more fun out of life and discarding outdated attitudes that stifle thought and repress further development in the best years ahead. Basso offers food for the soul to anyone in the vicinity of fifty.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I could not put this very funny book down.Great messages wrapped in great fun.." -- Eddie Sherman; Midweek Magazine October,1995

"The World War II generation has a new powerful and funny voice." -- Celestina Buenasera; International Humor Review,February,1997

From the Publisher

Bob Basso is the funniest voice we've heard representing a graying America who long for the return of simplicity, value and family sing-a-longs in the living room.He attacks every monster eating away those family values of yesterday but never draws blood. Each chapter is a separate story with a powerful conclusion. When we first read it,our editors were actually laughing and crying at the same time.Such is the impact of Dr.Bob's marvelously ironic view of aging in America. He writes the way he lives, enthusiastically, with piercing good humor and hope.A very easy read with many soul food morsels for any pilgrim searching for meaning in this confusing wired world of ours.

5.0 out of 5 stars "IT'S GOING TO BE A FUNNY, FUNNY MOVIE", July 29, 2000
This review is from: I Never Wanted to Set the World on Fire But Now that I'm 50 Maybe it's a Good Idea! (Paperback)
A MUST READ FOR ANYONE WHO THINKS AMERICA IS GONE TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET AND WOULD LIKE TO RUN AWAY TO AN IDYLLIC SOUTH PACIFIC ISLAND LIKE THE AUTHOR. BASSO PAINTS INCREDIBLY FUNNY WORD PICTURES OF HYSTERICAL ENCOUNTERS WITH THE COLORFUL INHABITANTS OF BEAUTIFUL MOLOKAI, EACH ONE OF WHOM AFFIRMS THHE KIND OF HOPE WE ALL NEED IN THIS NEW UPSIDE DOWN WORLD. EACH CHAPTER IS A GEM, SOMETIMES PROFOUND, SOMETIMES JUST PLAIN FUNNY BUT ALWAYS INSTRUCTIVE NEVER PREACHY. BASSO HAS CAPTURED THE SPIRIT OF ALL OF US OVERSTRESSED, "WHATDAHELL IS GOING ON " OVER FIFTY CROWD LOOKING TO REGAIN THAT ELUSIVE BALANCE IN OUR LIVES. I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN, VERY INSPIRATIONAL. WOULD MAKE A GREAT MOVIE WITH STEVE MARTIN IN THE LEAD.
