5.0 out of 5 stars soothing and beautiful
Kelley's music is melodic and rhythmic. Her lyrics stick with you well after the songs are over. I highly reccomend her unique sound (sort of Sarah McLaughlin meets Lucinda Williams). I love hearing this CD in the morning as I get ready for my day.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sounded churchy
This was much to churchy for me. I heard one of her songs on Pandora and was inspired to buy her album. However, I'm not into gospel music so I had a hard time enjoying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Never be (Audio CD)
I heard Kelly on NPR performing live and she did two songs. She had the youthful earnestness of discovering a thought and a feeling for the first time and needing to share it. She has the gift that makes this possible. The two songs, "Johnny Cash died of a broken heart" and Break me(I probably got the names wrong but this is how I remembered them), illustrate this perfectly. I have to confess that she was so good live that I really wanted those versions but as I listened and came to live the studio version, I forgot what I missed. "Johhnny Cash died of..." is the grabber, at least at first, but it didn't take long before "Break me" got hold of me and wouldn't let go. It is an incredible, spiritual cleanser that bought and still has the power to bring me to the edge of tears in those hours of aloneness we all have. Hear it, really listen, sing it and the moment is cathartic. As with all really good female singers I fell in love with Kelly, she became hauntingly beautiful. The rest of the album while not at these levels of transcendence is still very good. If you live for those moments where you come alive in the music, buy it. Even if you only play these two songs you got your money's worth.

Kelley McRae has an amazing voice and, for a young woman in her mid-twenties, is an amazing songwriter. Johnny Cash is a gem---it could be cloying, but it's not. It's just great.

Anyone who buys this first album will be able to say, "I knew her when....."
