the beta band driving on acid listening to pet sounds,
By A Customer
This review is from: Neveroddoreven (Audio CD)
i bought this in paris in last winter. the label said that it was england's answer to royksopp and air. it's not. with one album, i monster leave them both in the dust. each track is simultaneously disturbing and accessible, excellent and creative. each track is a simultaneous throwback and look forward. the beta band is really the only group i can think of to compare them to. if you're looking for something strange and wonderful, this is it.

This is an album in which every song is a gem and completely unique. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes electronica and/or old sci-fi films, as the sounds in the music are reminiscent of.

Amazing, original music,

This is a very creative, beautiful, at times spooky album. It defies genres. However, if you are going to spend $30 on it (which, IMHO, is worth it for this!) try to find the original release from Dharma records - it has 15 tracks instead of 12 (I wonder why they decided to cut 3 tracks out?) and the cover art is much better!

what a great find,

It's difficult to find an album in which almost every song is really something. I heard "Hey Mrs" and was sold right from the off. While not really sounding anything like Bent they have that same offbeat wonderfulness, funky moogy sounds and beautiful strings. A strange, lovely, quirky album.

I was obsessed...,

When I first heard a track from this CD, it was on the designer Christian LaCroix's website as background music for his Printemps/Ete 2005 Haute Couture collection. I became obsessed with the song ("These are Our Children") and after many futile attempts to find the origins with shards of lyrics through Google, I brushed off my high school/tourist French and e-mailed the creators of the website to find out WHO was singing this song!! I had to have it.
They were kind enough to eventually send me all of the info. Took me a couple of e-mails, though. But hey! I LOVE THE WHOLE CD--I downloaded it from iTunes on the strength of just that one song. I am delighted by the quirky, moody songs in particular. Goes great with paint-by-number pictures and other kitsch. A tip...it only costs about $10 bucks to download from iTunes. I guess you avoid the whole "IMPORT" concept that way...

This has to be one of my favorite albums of 2003! I can't believe no one has written a review about it yet. It is ABSOLUTELY SUPERB from begining to end!

I would easily recommend this album to anyone interested in the strange. It's a great album!!! Kinda hard to describe. Sounds a little like Air, but not. It kinda reminds me of some of Mike Pattons works, with the quirky lyrics and scary pop sound of some of the songs.
Anyways, definitely worth picking up....if perhaps somewhere else for a bit less.....

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Neveroddoreven is a masterwork so accessible you'll want to put this album on repeat for weeks. An etherial and classy composite of Electronica, Rock and Dance - it sounds like nothing that's been done before.
No song stands on it's own as one genre, which is perfect if you are burnt out on the same "Commercial Blend" FM and XM insist on playing. "Heaven", "Hey Mrs.", "Who is She?" and "Blue Wrath" are all standouts, though the album speaks like a well-told story. You'll make up excuses (to yourself) to listen to it as much as you can. This gift from the music gods has been laid at your feet, it's your job to decode the hidden message in it all.
