Product Description

Neverwas is an ever growing collection of the best-loved fairy tales, drawn from the folklore of the many nations of Redmantle. It is the first fairy book produced by R F Grenvile in the voice of the characters from his fictional world of Teira. Inside you will find such favorites as The Path of Dead Sparrows, The Shadowless Wife, and the Bullfinch and the General – written in the tradition of the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, and Andrew Lang.

Neverwas is filled with original stories told from the perspective of poor folk living on Teira. The unique perspective lent by the cultural lens of a fictional world so like our own breathes fresh life into the genre’ and a new vision of familiar elements such as wizards, fairies, orcs and gnomes; while preserving the traditions in a way that is quite appealing to young readers and those not so young as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Old school fantasy, April 12, 2011
This review is from: Neverwas: Forgotten Tales of Albion (Kindle Edition)
I read far more horror and paranormal stuff than I do straight fantasy these days. Still I was interested in reading this since I'm always on the lookout for a new author to follow and Fred appeared on my radar recently.

This is a collection of three stories, two short ones and one longer one. The short stories are the gems here. They're all done in a old school, fairy tale kind of style. That works for me in the short ones, not so much in the novelette.

If you really enjoy fantasy/fairy tales you'll likely enjoy these a great deal. Fred plays with the tropes and has a great deal of fun with them. I particularly liked the richness of his description.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great & Fun Read!, March 7, 2011
This review is from: Neverwas: Forgotten Tales of Albion (Kindle Edition)
I totally love these little fairy tales. The Bullfinch and the General is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. I can't wait to read more from this author.
