5.0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTIFULLY-PRESENTED "OVERVIEW" OF SOME "NEW AGE" SUBJECTS, June 21, 2011
This review is from: New Age Living: A Guide to Principles, Practices and Beliefs (Hardcover)
Paul Roland "is a counselor and teacher of meditation... (and a) freelance writer," who is the author of books such as How to Meditate: An Illustrated Guide to Calming the Mind and Relaxing the Body, Explore Your Past Lives, How Psychic Are You?: Understand and Develop Your Natural Ability (Pyramid Paperback), etc.

He wrote in the Introduction to this attractively-illustrated 2000 book, "This book aims to dispel many of the myths and misconceptions shrouding these alternative practices and the principles which they embody... One of the purposes of this book is to pull these tangled strands together so that you may feel more confident to choose the path of practice which is most suited to your needs and lifestyle... This book is designed to be practical, all-inclusive and user-friendly, for all those seeking a positive, no-nonsense guide to developing greater self-awareness, health and general well-being."

Here are some additional quotations from the book:

"Prior to the 1950s, reincarnation was an alien idea to Westerners... Then in the early 1950s the case of a Colorado housewife, Virginia Tighe, became the subject of an international bestseller (The Search for Bridey Murphy)... A movie was made based on the book and public fascination with the case appeared to have reached a peak when it was revealed that Mrs. Tighe had an Irish nurse during her own childhood. It was assumed that the nurse had been the source of the information and the public lost interest... Less well known, but even more convincing, was the case of Shanti Devi, a young Indian girl who past life recollections became the subject of intense scrutiny and exhaustive research by Professor Ian Stevenson..." (Pg. 24-25)
"The decision to attack the US naval base at Pearl Harbour in December 1941 was taken after the Japanese High Command had consulted the I Ching." (Pg. 82)
