Had the pleasure of hearing his music last night for the first time at a gig he was playing locally.This man is an extraordinary talent. I immediately bought this cd at the merchandise table they had set up there.My only complaint about this cd is that it doesn't include everything we heard him perform last night........he will literally drop your jaw to the floor.He has the whole package..........the licks,the voice,and the songwriting skills. I guess I became a "Montiac" last night. Wish it were a double-live set. Bert

Monte Montgomery's music is incredible and the songs on this album prove he is one of the greatest guitar players of all time. The live performances put all other guitar players to shame. Monte's solos, vocals, and melodies are killer. The only song that wasn't on here is "When Love Comes Knock'n" which was featured in the awesome movie "Pico de Gallo". Otherwise, this is a top notch album and should be purchased by all Monte fans.

I've seen Monte live several times and I'm always amazed more with each performance I catch. I urge everyone that enjoys real music to order this CD and anything else Monte puts out. With performances like those on New & Approved, I feel Monte's well on his way to being a huge star. New and Approved is an absolutely exceptional recording. Monte Montgomery and percussionist Phil Bass are both first-class musicians and this album is a wholehearted testimonial to the fact. This is not an in-your-face, bleed-your-eardrums rock concert; there are no heavy grunge guitar effects and no head-pounding, polyphonic bass parts. This CD makes my feel as if I'm sitting in my own living room listening to Monte and Phil play a private concert just for me; it is the be-all, end-all, ultimate serenade. So much was ideal for the recording including the live audience. During a song they are engaged to the music and very quiet, and afterwards they confidently applaud in appreciation. They even get their moments in the spotlight as in the addicting sing-a-long rendition of Tug of War, the second track. Along with several originals, many of my favorite covers are also on the CD: Sara Smile, Romeo and Juliet, Northeast Texas Woman, and, a very special treat, In the Gaze of the Spotlight's Eye. With the album comes more than a great set list; we also get an idea of what the atmosphere was like in the café when this was recorded. You can feel the mood change with the music and you can almost see the vibes between the performers and the audience. New and Approved is a series of powerful and romantic moments and I strongly recommend it to everyone. It is second-best to being there in person, but you can always check tour dates on his self-titled website if second-best is not good enough. Buy one for yourself, your dog, your neighbor and his dog. Okay, maybe that's a bit much, but I can't wait to give them out as Christmas presents! Enjoy the CD and see you at the shows!

Monte Montgomery is in my mind the most talented singer, songwriter, guitarist that I personaly have ever heard. He is the real deal. He gets tons of attention for his guitar playing, but folks, what U need to grasp is his SONGWRITING. It is amazing.

This is a great primer Monte album. It is stripped down, and although it is not representive of his rocking live shows, it does give a needed focus to his vocals and stand alone talent as a guitarist. Of course Phil Bass, long time drummer sets in on this as well, and Monte and Phil are a magical pair.

We first caught Monte on Austin's Music Network. Since then, we've caught his shows when he's home in Austin and always brings friends to check him out. I received my copy of New & Approved as a gift and I'm totally blown away. Monte is as great a Singer as he is a Guitarist. The album is a beautiful compilation of some great songs and I believe it's Monte's best album yet. I love hearing his fingers against the fretboard on this Live Album!

I started listening to Monte Montgomery just before Mirror came out some time in 1997. That doesn't sound like a long time until you consider I was in middle school at the time. I've never been disappointed in those more than twelve years. I share his music with anyone who will listen. His playing is creative, innovative, and uplifting. He's a true virtuoso for his instrument. For lovers of blues, country, rock, ballads, and acoustic music of any kind. Monte should certainly find his way to you listening collection.

The CD came with a broken case. The broken case was not listed in the description. Other than that the CD was good and it arrived on time.

This is a thin sounding recording that does not have the punch and verve to fully showcase Monte. An entertaining performer live, this album does not do the guitar man justice. Too bad because he is a good lyricist and player and that gets lost in the tinny recording.

Monte's other CD At WorkPlay is excellent all around and a much better representation of him especially as a live performer.
