And if you are a man wanting to buy this, listen to your significant other.

The sweat seems to confuse it and it will eventually stop giving the heart rate on demand until you reset it (which wipes out all you data) or stop sweating.

For all these problems, the only thing to do is reboot the HRT and then wait 10 seconds or so while it resets itself.

My New Balance HRT is surprisingly buggy. I've had the following issues over the course of the month since I bought it:

- The calorie counter stops responding to the Stop button.
- The stopwatch stops responding to the Stop button.
- The heart rate monitor stops giving readouts (I think when I get too sweaty, it just gets confused)
- The HRT stops responding to its Mode button.
- When it's just sitting on the shelf after I take it off, it will falsely detect a request to measure heart rate, so it will beep its complaint that it can't detect a heart rate. This means the thing beeps a couple of times every 15 seconds or so.

For all these problems, the only thing to do is reboot the HRT and then wait 10 seconds or so while it resets itself. Forget about trying to store your weight, heart rate zone, setting the clock, using the alarm, etc. You have to reboot too often for any of that to be useful. The thing does work, but it's inconsistent enough that I direct many more epithets towards it than praise.

I've had the same experience as the other reviewer. The watch works fine for a bit but will start to bug out during vigorous exercise or water activity.
Once sweat starts to get between the watch and the skin it tries to take a heart rate reading constantly and in most cases inaccurately. The sweat seems to confuse it and it will eventually stop giving the heart rate on demand until you reset it (which wipes out all you data) or stop sweating.
Forget about using this during any kind of water activity, the watch can't keep an accurate count when in water (it claimed I burned 3000 calories in the pool playing with my kids for 30 minuets...I don't think so)
The watch will also give inaccurate readings if you wear it to bed, the pillow, sheets, what ever comes in contact with the watch puts it into the heart rate on demand and throws it off.
It works about 70% of the time like the other reviewer said, but that isn't good enough for my money, I think it'll be going back for something else.

So I was excited to purchase the New Balance HRT 50113nb to run a realistic comparison to the calorie counter on the arc trainer I've been working on at the gym. I read throgh the users guide (not an easy task even though I'm a by the book kind of gal) which was overly complicated and cumbersome. Once I'd finally gotten the hang of how the thing actually works (which is not easy and who needs two different time zones and an alarm built into a heart rate monitor or calorie counter?). I've used it three times now and it turns out to pretty much match the calorie counter on the arc trainer - BUT IT STOPS WORKING WHEN I GET SWEATY (which is every time I work out). DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY - THEY NEED TO FIX THIS THING!

Soooo I was looking at Woot! and noticed they had this model
New Balance HRT Heart Rate Monitor Watch
$7.99
$50.00 84% off List Price

and it was even labeled under the category "Terrible Gifts for Father's Day"!! I started looking for consumer reviews to see what's up with this! I've had kinda bad experiences with a Reebock HRM watch which was too small text for me to read and backlight didn't stay on long enough for me to read when I was out walking at night. So I'm gonna delete this from my cart on woot and save my bucks!! Woot!! Thanks to all you Amazon verified purchasers!!

This item worked fine for my boyfriend for the first month he had it. I had read other reviews which said that it stopped working when it comes in contact with sweat or water, but he wanted it anyway. A month and a half after purchase, and after the Amazon refund period, it stopped measuring his heart rate. I reminded him that I had told him about the reviews before he bought it. I just got an "Oh, yeah." So if you are a woman thinking about buying this for your mate, don't. And if you are a man wanting to buy this, listen to your significant other. Seriously, his sweat from his workouts interferes with the HR mechanism, rendering it useless.
