5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Shoe
These shoes have an interesting juxtaposition. There seems to be a minimalist construction with the upper feeling almost like a dense mesh while the midsole makes up the brunt of the weight. I like it. It feels like you're running barefoot but the cushion these trail runners provide make it very obvious that your joints, pads of your feet, and heels are protected. Bottom...

3.0 out of 5 stars didn't fully experience due to wrong size
Confronted the flaw of ordering shoes/clothes online: ordered my typical 11 1/2 size but in this shoe, at least a 1/2 size too small. Motivated to buy based on "environmentally friendly" considerations. Picante color not my favorite but wanted to save some money. Upper seems a bit - thin; fabric minimal and reminiscent of old canvas shoes. May have been fine but question...

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Shoe, August 5, 2010

These shoes have an interesting juxtaposition. There seems to be a minimalist construction with the upper feeling almost like a dense mesh while the midsole makes up the brunt of the weight. I like it. It feels like you're running barefoot but the cushion these trail runners provide make it very obvious that your joints, pads of your feet, and heels are protected. Bottom line, these things are really comfortable and provide great support. The grip is fantastic. I've run all types of surface from loose gravel to smooth granite and they perform well. Definitely my shoe of choice.

The only thing that I have found to watch out for is if it's rainy and cold, you may want to pick another shoe because this trail runner is very breathable and allows mixture in quickly. Great for dry days and especially summer.

4.0 out of 5 stars sizing is a challenge, February 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i liked the quality and build of these shoes when they arrived. however, as the other reviewer mentions the sizing is not correct, at least compared to every other shoe i own. i wear a size 10.5 universally. so i ordered in this size only to find that they are painfully small, hopefully only by half a size, though i fear it may be by a whole size. i reordered in an 11, but i am not sure still if this will be the correct size. backcountry was very helpful on the phone in offering me a return, but could not speak for the sizing issue with these new balance shoes.

so ill try the 11, and if that is too small, ill return again for a refund this time. so a word to future buyers: they are sized smaller than what you normally wear. order accordingly.

Motivated to buy based on "environmentally friendly" considerations. Picante color not my favorite but wanted to save some money. Upper seems a bit - thin; fabric minimal and reminiscent of old canvas shoes. May have been fine but question wear abilities/realities. Others seeing it said: "that's a running shoe?".

Altrec customer service friendly and efficient; however, I was of the impression that my request to "send out the next size up" would be honored - 2 weeks after return (a drag to have to pay for return shipping/insurance...so it goes), receive notice from Amazon that my credit card had been credited.

The search goes on for how to be out in our environment without damaging it!
