Spent last week walking the UT Relays in Austin as an official. Carried a lot of throws tools and never had a foot issue after 5 days of work. Will stay with the New Balance products as a person who has had the high arch issue in other shoes , have the wide body foot 4E along with my high arches. These shoes work well for my feet. When you have a good horse you ride it and don't even consider a new mount.

I ordered these to replace my aging 882's I buy them 2 pair at a time and I wish they were less expensive. I weigh nearly 200 lbs and run 30 - 70 miles a week. They seem to be holding up really well like my 882's.

They have taken some of the lining out of the toebox from the 882 model, time will tell if that's a good thing.

Added a cloth vent on the big toe side which I like until I step in the water. Road Runner Sports gave about a 10% discount through Amazon. Delivery was quick. I know my size so I didn't have to send back.

This is my third pair of 883's.
I had more than a dozen pairs of 882's before that.
I love these shoes for the following reasons.
Straight last.
Great cushioning.
Neutral motion control.
SL2 last (straight, larger toe box, narrower heal)
The toe box is so roomy that I can wear a 2E (normally I need a 4E).
Just the right shoe for me.
And the Amazon price is a hundred dollars less than what they are asking at the sporting goods store.
Win.

This is an excellent neutral shoe if you use orthotic inserts. The flat sole and lack of an arch support allow the othotic to do its job.

I imagine soon the NB MR883 will be replaced with the 884, if it hasn't been already. Too bad, because this shoe's been great for the neutral runner with a wide forefoot since it was the 880 (or was it 881?). There's ample cushioning that comforts my 72 year old feet, yet great fit and light weight despite a sturdy (but flexible) outsole that makes for a stable running or walking platform. About half or more of my miles a week are running, so I need a shoe that can perform running or walking. This one is ready for whatever I want to do, and feels so good that it makes me want to run! Oh yeah--they last for ever. Replace 'em anyway on schedule; your feet will thank you and you'll have a great yard work shoe (better yet, if you can donate them to your running shoe store or somewhere that will give them to those who can't afford shoes, you'll make someone else's feet happy too.)

Running/Walking shoes are about as individual as prescription eyeglasses. What is best for one is not best for another, and every serious runner/walker must do his own homework. New Balance probably has the greatest selection of quality footwear to choose from. I have been wearing New Balance shoes for about 15 years. I am a small person with higher than average arches and a very odd footsize, and have never found any other shoe that fits my individual needs as well.

I have structural deficiencies that I found no way to correct other than using custom orthotics. The New Balance MR883 is the only running shoe I have found so far that provides an excellent platform for my orthotics without interfering with their customized function. I think the Brooks Dyad 6 would work well too except that I have a foot that is borderline between the narrow and standard width and the standard width for straight lasts shoes like NB MR883 and Brooks Dyad 6 are wider than normal. New Balance MR 883 offers a narrow width and Brooks Dyad 6 does not. My ONLY complaint is the color selection. I like running shoes that are primarily black in color. I am not fond of the results of wearing dominantly white shoes on the roads here in Alabama. Potentially, this shoe can work wonders for you if you wear custom orthotics. Good Luck and God Speed!

I have been an Avia fan for years ... I still am, so do not take this recommendation as a knock against Avia. I still love my Avia Crosstrainers.

I was looking for a pair of shoes which would fit my foot well for the 20 mile long walks each day. I went into a Running Fit store and was fitted with this New Balance shoe and it felt just right.

The person who fitted me recommended a wider shoe to accommodate the swelling in my foot as the walk progressed during the day.

I have been doing 12 mile practice walks and this shoe feels great and is holding up very well.

I bought a second pair through Amazon to save some money.

I would recommended that anyone considering a pair of these get them fitted by a store which specializes in fitting shoes for your feet... Running Fit has a variety of shoes to choose from ... New Balance has stores and their salesmen provide great service as well ... they only sell New Balance of course ...

I only wear New Balance due to severe plantar fasciitis and Amazon always has the best price! I'm so thankful!
This shoe is labeled "neutral" and the man at the store where I first tried it on said it would be good for my PF - I don't think I will buy this model again, I need something with a higher arch - but that is not Amazon's fault.
I also needed the shoe in a hurry and Amazon delivered just on time!

Excellent shoe for a short to mid distance runner. If you have normal pronation, and not over 175 lbs.then this shoe should work really well for you. Besides, from a value perspective, the price and quality of the shoe can't be beat!
