I wear my NB trail runners for lightweight, long distance backpacking trips. I have previously worn 811's and 1410's - two great long lasting shoes. The 813's (like most NB trail runners) fit perfectly right out of the box, with zero break-in time required. They are light and fairly breathable as well. I always replace the insoles with green superfeet insoles, which make them rigid enough to rock-hop above treeline all day long without the shoe "folding" over when stepping on pointy rocks and roots.

My only complaint is the triangular silver "arrow" on the side of the outer toe box. The tip of the triangle constantly rubs on rocks etc and both pairs quickly developed tears in the mesh on both sides of the triangle. After less than 100 miles both pair were damaged significantly.

If you're looking for a very light NB shoe, try the MT101

Overall a pretty tough shoe. Very light for a trail runner. I purchased it to wear and use when doing PT on my base in Afghanistan. It has held up well thus far. I do agree with other reviewers that it is sized about 1/2 size larger than other New Balance shoes.

I've been a fan of New Balance for years since I found that it was the only brand that fit my foot well. I was a little hesitant to order online (have always tried on shoes before buying them), but took a chance since I already knew my New Balance size. It worked out well and I'm happy with my purchase!

Shoes were comfortable, but did not last as long as they should have. Just about three months in, the sides started to tear out. The uppers are extremely soft, but that leads to them easily tearing. I wore these for daily shoes at work in a retail sporting goods store. I will not purchase another pair of this type.
I expected more from New Balance, especially an 800 series shoe.

Normally I am a huge fan of New Balance shoes and a big reason is that I know I am the same size for every style but theses specific shoes ran a 1/2 size too small for me cramping my toes so go a little larger if you are getting this pair

Shoes are very comfortable to wear for extended times. They are very light weight. They tend to be sized a bit large.

The shoes started falling apart after 9 months, small holes developed on both shoes near the little toes. This never happened with a New Balance shoe before.

We have had a lot of trouble finding my husband shoes.He has big feet and we don't usually buy without him trying shoes on but the price was right and we decided to go for it.....best thing we ever did... He loves them!! Says they don't hurt his feet.I will be buying them again.

They are excellent shoes for running on uneven ground, I use them as a valet because I have to run through streets up and down stairs in all manner on conditions and the weight is cruical along with the grip. I did "blow out the sides" on both my baby toe but its not an uncommon thing due to the width of my foot. This ismy 2nd pair and Iwill keep buying them till they stop making them. Easy to clean with good traction = a winner in my book and for the price I havent found anything comperable.

Love the shoe! Been getting it for over a decade when it was called the 802. I would highly recommend it.
