4.0 out of 5 stars Trail Ruining Shoe
The 876 has all the essential features a serious trail shoe needs: Rockstop, fast draining liner, solid toe protection without being too bulky, and great traction even in moving water over mossy rocks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Tight
The Tongue of this shoe is sewn in the entire length, so there is no adjustment for volume. Even though the shoe was my size, it was too tight around the top.

The 876 has all the essential features a serious trail shoe needs: Rockstop, fast draining liner, solid toe protection without being too bulky, and great traction even in moving water over mossy rocks.

This is a good trail running shoe. I ran my first 80 mile ultra marathon 1 year ago. Since then I have used many different shoes or none at all. The 900 series was favorable with the 908 being the best, but later changes made it disappointing because of the addition of Gortex in the 910 which is useless in a serious trail shoe and the liner collapsing in the 909.

I have used this shoe almost a month and it is getting better with time. I only hope that no changes are made to this model, and this shoe is kept in production just the way it is. It fits my needs perfectly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed long-time NB Customer, November 30, 2010

I have run 2 marathons in NB (road shoes not trail). So, I have no beef with NB.
However, they are extremely narrow. I usually wear 2E width, but had to exchange the 2E's for the 4E shoe and one size larger than usual. Little toes still bulge out with anything but super thin socks. Cushioning is so-so. Ball of my left foot hurt after just a few days of wear. I also like Brooks, but could not find a trail shoe of theirs that was wide enough.
I will not buy these again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome shoes., April 1, 2011

My Nike shoes feel hot, stuffy and uncomfortable after wearing these. Good traction and they breathe nicely. These shoes also look pretty sweet, especially when combined with a red shirt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked Well For My First Run, March 10, 2011
Bought a pair of these in size 8.5 X2E, which has always been my size for all NB as well as most other shoes I wear. Tried them on and felt way too tight, therefore sent them back immediately for exchange to a 9 X2E. Fit much better this time.

Yesterday I wore them for the first time for my (also very first) trail run. I feel that they worked quite well. Part of the trail I ran was VERY steep, probably over 30% grade. I found that the sole of these shoes gripped really well, as I didn't feel any slippage when I was descending rapidly, even on loose rocks and sands. I went through some very muddy area, and still felt quite sure footed. During the run, I (somewhat purposely) stepped on some pointy rocks, but didn't feel any jabbing through the bottom. So I think the "ROCK STOP" claim by NB is valid. Overall I am happy with the purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars 14EEEE limits choice, March 10, 2011

OK shoes. Very long lasting. Not wildly comfortable and not particularly well-fitting, but Brooks and other companies don't bother to make wide shoes in many models, so these have to work until that happens.

I'm a solid, muscular sort with normal feet, nothing wide, that have run around the circumference of the earth many times over. But you gotta order these one width up, though the length is consistently fine for me. Those of you already at 2E better order up to 4E. Despite having to get 2E instead of normal width, these New Balance shoes are great. They actually have lasted longer than my Keens. I also appreciate that like me, they are made in America. May these sneakers at a wider width enable you to further enjoy exploring the world on your own two feet.

Great trail running shoes. Good stability and comfort for rocky terrain. A little bit heavy, but still an overall good shoe.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a slip on with fake laces, January 31, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: New Balance Men's MT876 Trail Running Shoe (Apparel)
It looks like a real running shoe, but if you have a big instep, you can't get it on easily because you cannot loosen it up by undoing the laces, which seem to be there just for show. NB is usually good for a wide foot, but the 4E is more like what they used to call a D. There is width inflation in shoe sizes these days.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, January 24, 2012

Shoe is very durable and comfortable on trails, which is it's designed purpose. Sole of the shoe is flexible yet has enough firmness to help handle rocky terrain. Built in tongue is great idea, avoids slippage on uneven terrain.
