5.0 out of 5 stars MT909 is a winner.
All things considered, I'm very pleased with these Trail Runners. On a scale of 10 I rate the MT909 a 9.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slippery when wet
I have been using NB shoes for both road and trail running for more than 10 years and have never had any as slippery as these. The NB 909 size 12 ee fit great and are fine until you encounter any hard wet surface. Concrete, rocks, metal drain covers, asphalt when wet become treacherous. There must be something wrong with the material used in the sole.

All things considered, I'm very pleased with these Trail Runners. On a scale of 10 I rate the MT909 a 9.

I recently purchased the New Balance Men's MT909 Trail Running shoe and I couldn't be happier with it. The fit of the shoe was perfect. I was very concerned about buying shoes over the internet and not being able to try them on, but I have had good experiences with New Balance in the past and I was not disappointed. One key feature in my purchase decision was that New Balance offers their shoes in Wide sizes. In my case that makes all the difference. Trying to force my foot into other manufacturer's D widths always had predictable results. I blew out the sides of the shoe in no time. With these New Balance shoes the width is just right.

I'm also pleased with the construction, workmanship, and materials of the shoe. The sole and tread pattern allow for running on the street comfortably while being designed to support a runner properly on the trail. They have excellent traction even when things get a little wet and slippery. My only negative observation is that the shoes don't breathe as well as a typical running shoe. I used them for a day of casual shopping and walking around and found them a little sweaty for that purpose.

Finally, I've enjoyed the feel of the shoe. Running in the MT909's is smooth. The cushioning is just right and the low profile of the heel section provides a stability not found in other shoes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Trail Running Shoe, September 21, 2011
The New Balance MT909 is a good, but not great, replacement for the discontinued New Balance 908 (which I stocked up on and used for years.) Like the 908 the MT909 is intended for trail running and it excels at that task, and it also has adequate cushioning for running on pavement; however, unlike the 908 the MT909 does not have enough traction for street running (at times I found myself slipping on asphalt after crossing grass that was merely damp.) These shoes do not breathe well and get warm after about 3 to 4 miles, and if you run in the desert they are worse than warm. That said, they are light, well cushioned, perform well in the environment for which they are intended and protect your feet well. They are slightly more stiff than the 908s, but I found this to be a positive development: the 908s made the bones in back of my smaller toes hurt like crazy after several years of running in them, the 909 did not hurt nearly as bad. Most important is that I never had an injury while wearing these shoes. They are also attractive. If you can get them for a good price they are worth it (I got mine when they first came out for around $75, I would look for some that were slightly cheaper. The current price on Amazon is too much, so I recently switched to the Brooks Men's Cascadia 5 Trail Running Shoe.)

I ordered these trail shoes for running a trail marathon. They worked great. They were extremely comfortable right out of the box. The fit was right on. I did my training in them preparing for the marathon. After the marathon, I ran on the road with them but this wore the sole out quicker. Overall, this is a very comfortable shoe for running off road or just to wear for everyday.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best New Balance I have owned, February 9, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a huge fan of New Balance products, primarily for the superb fitting I am guaranteed of. I have never had to re-think any purchase on the grounds of fit, and this is no different. However, I think the cushioning is slightly unbalanced, being excellent on the rear sole, while it feels a little spare on the front. Also, the soles squeak with every step while running at a slow pace/walking. Not a major problem, but it could have been better. Traction is very good on slippery surfaces as well. Aesthetics and squeak aside, a good buy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not good for distance running, November 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a long distance runner, typically between 10-12 miles. After five miles on the first run, my legs were screaming. The shoes do not offer much support or cushion. Very stiff, traction was acceptable and support could be better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great all around shoe!, October 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I purchased this pair to alternate with my Asics shoe and I'm so glad I did! I've heard a lot of good things about New Balance and this is my first purchase of the brand. I like the fact that it cushions my foot very well during running and it's very light weight. I got the black/yellow one and the look is great but there's too much yellow for my taste. I still love my Asics but lately I've been wearing this pair more often. All in all you won't be disappointed with this one.

One of the best purchases I've made in Amazon. The shoe fits perfectly and the color combination of yellow and black looks great. Over all, a great value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Trail Running Shoes, July 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
great product for the price! bought the pair on those Amazon Friday Sales for $33. Can't beat it! as for the shoe, it's very lightweight. I didn't even realize i was wearing the shoe after a couple hours of running in them. laces are awesome. design is very stylish. i was worried about the yellow color at first but when i received it, it was not as neon or bright as the picture made it out to be. it's a nice yellow-greenish color but pretty subtle. I'd highly recommend this pair to anyone interested in running. shipping was fast and b/c i have amazon prime, it was free. ordered it on Friday and received it on Monday. I ordered the 10.5D which is a standard size. I was worried that the shoe wouldn't fit me but i've bought 10.5 New Balances all my life. For those not familiar with New Balances, got to your local sport shop and try on a few sizes and go back on Amazon to purchase this pair. You will not be disappointed.
