MT909 is a winner.,

All things considered, I'm very pleased with these Trail Runners. On a scale of 10 I rate the MT909 a 9.
I recently purchased the New Balance Men's MT909 Trail Running shoe and I couldn't be happier with it. The fit of the shoe was perfect. I was very concerned about buying shoes over the internet and not being able to try them on, but I have had good experiences with New Balance in the past and I was not disappointed. One key feature in my purchase decision was that New Balance offers their shoes in Wide sizes. In my case that makes all the difference. Trying to force my foot into other manufacturer's D widths always had predictable results. I blew out the sides of the shoe in no time. With these New Balance shoes the width is just right. I'm also pleased with the construction, workmanship, and materials of the shoe. The sole and tread pattern allow for running on the street comfortably while being designed to support a runner properly on the trail. They have excellent traction even when things get a little wet and slippery. My only negative observation is that the shoes don't breathe as well as a typical running shoe. I used them for a day of casual shopping and walking around and found them a little sweaty for that purpose. Finally, I've enjoyed the feel of the shoe. Running in the MT909's is smooth. The cushioning is just right and the low profile of the heel section provides a stability not found in other shoes.

Slippery when wet,

I have been using NB shoes for both road and trail running for more than 10 years and have never had any as slippery as these. The NB 909 size 12 ee fit great and are fine until you encounter any hard wet surface. Concrete, rocks, metal drain covers, asphalt when wet become treacherous. There must be something wrong with the material used in the sole.

Good Trail Running Shoe,
This review is from: New Balance Men's MT909 Trail Running Shoe (Apparel)
The New Balance MT909 is a good, but not great, replacement for the discontinued New Balance 908 (which I stocked up on and used for years.) Like the 908 the MT909 is intended for trail running and it excels at that task, and it also has adequate cushioning for running on pavement; however, unlike the 908 the MT909 does not have enough traction for street running (at times I found myself slipping on asphalt after crossing grass that was merely damp.) These shoes do not breathe well and get warm after about 3 to 4 miles, and if you run in the desert they are worse than warm. That said, they are light, well cushioned, perform well in the environment for which they are intended and protect your feet well. They are slightly more stiff than the 908s, but I found this to be a positive development: the 908s made the bones in back of my smaller toes hurt like crazy after several years of running in them, the 909 did not hurt nearly as bad. Most important is that I never had an injury while wearing these shoes. They are also attractive. If you can get them for a good price they are worth it (I got mine when they first came out for around $75, I would look for some that were slightly cheaper. The current price on Amazon is too much, so I recently switched to the Brooks Men's Cascadia 5 Trail Running Shoe.)
