The shoe fits as expected and does not smell like the pair of New Balance shoes that I am replacing.
I have been very pleased with the fit and the comfort of this style shoe.
To sum up, great fit, very comfortable, long wearing and excellent for walking.

Product Description

New Balance is dedicated to helping athletes achieve their goals. It's been their mission for more than a century to focus on research and development. It's why they don't design products to fit an image. They design them to fit. New Balance is driven to make the finest shoes for the same reason athletes lace them up: to achieve the very best.

Who knew you could pack so many features into a walking shoe? The New Balance MW812is a walker engineered with the same care as a competitive track shoe. A synthetic upper provides lightweight comfort and durability, while a padded collar and tongue provides a perfect fit. But the real story here is inside the shoe, where premium open-cell foam gently conforms to your anatomy and disperses pressure. Your foot thinks it never got out of bed!

The MW812 is a redesigned version of the discontinued MW811. This version is inferior to the 811 in form, fit and function. New Balance has reduced its manufacturing costs, but not its price, with this redesign.

My first disappointment was the fit. The 812s do not grip my foot as well or feel like they provide the same support.

New Balance eliminated the blue "walking strike path" insert that ran the full length of the sole on the 811. The 811's "rollbar", which was integrally molded with the "strike path" insert, has been replace with a smaller grey plastic insert. It appears the 811's 2-layer sole has been replaced with a single molded piece.

The 812 uppers have a wider gap for the lacing. They are single-stitched in some places that were double-stitched on the 811. The smooth leather has been replace with a cheap looking pebble-grained leather. There are fewer individual pieces and in one place there is a non-functional stitch that seems designed to mimic a similarly placed functional stitch on the 811.

The shoe just looks cheaper than the 811. They eliminated an inset, separately-stitched logo on the back of the heel counter to save money.

    Definitely a step backward.

i used to live in the old model 811 of this shoe and went with the change when the model changed to the 812's.

they seemed like the same old quality shoe i was used to but they are not.

after just a couple of weeks of wear the first pair began to develop a crack in the right shoe's sole. within a couple of months it was a split making them useless in the rain.

fool that i am i figured it was bad luck and i got a second pair- 3 months later they have the same split in the same place on both soles.

i have seen others online reporting the same issue and i will not be buying these shoes again. it is a shame because the 811 was such a fine shoe.

I am older, tall and heavy so I need some good shoe support. This model provides good arch support and anti tilt/ twist resistance. I walk a lot and my feet do not get tired. Have worn this 800 model series for about 3 years. It's great.

I am an 845 FAN, They have been discontinued, I called the company and they sent me a pair of the newer 812's and they fit right out of the box. They are well padded, they have the stabilizing roll bar, and are assembled at least in the USA (I let them know I would rather they be made here) I returned the 846's, they were just awful. Toe box is too small, lack of solid leather on the uppers allows toes to slip into those weaker areas in the shoe, Certainly NOT the fit that the 845 was, and totally now made in China, and a huge disappointment and certainly NOT worth the $140 price tag.

This shoe is a poor replacement for the 811. The toe box is flater and the sole doesn't have the cushioning that the 811 had. I feel like I'm wearing a deck shoe instead of a walking shoe. I will not buy another pair of NB 812.

I hate to bash New Balance shoes. I've been wearing them for years for the wide sizes. A shoes that fits. Being able to go from boots to sneakers at work. I decided to purchase the 812's. They're exactly what I needed. The first day at work I wore them it was like walking in my bare feet. No cushion. I put my inserts in for my back and still my feet hurt. My 621's that are old have more cushion then these shoes. My next purchase will be in person not on line to try them out first. Bottom line, if you do a lot of walking like I do, these are not the right shoe...sorry...

I have been wearing New Balance sneakers almost exclusively except for hiking and summer sandals for over a decade. My feet are an odd size (8 4e) so the New Balance range of sizes work for me. Every couple of years New Balance changes its model designations so I was last using MW811 which was discontinued. After about six months my feet start hurting because of the sneakers cushioning breaking down so I replaced my MW811's with this MW812 model and they have performed fine though they seem a little expensive.

I loved my 811s for years. I wanted these because the soles on my 811s are getting a little worn.

When I wear these, my Achilles tendon gets a painful cramp every time. My 811s don't have that effect.

NEW BALANCE: go back to the old design!
